Jade awoke the next day, changed into scrubs, and threw her hair into a ponytail. Her jewels were tucked away, and her new attire was replaced with her nurse's uniform. Grabbing her bag, she made her way to the Medical Wing, ready for another day of volunteering. Jade spent as much time in the Medical Wing as she could spare. All she wanted to do was learn how to take care of others and better her healing abilities. Dr. Olivia allowed her to learn just that.

"Hey, Syren!" Jade greeted the receptionist.

"Good morning, Ms. Jade. Olivia is in the back."

Jade washed her hands and crossed to the back where Dr. Olivia had been tending to a patient. Olivia rose her head in greeting and gestured towards the gauze on the table. Jade grabbed it and crossed over to her, helping her apply it around a student's wrist.

"You're the princess," the girl's eyes widened.

"Just your nurse today," Jade said, taping the edge of the gauze down. The girl sat up, still in awe of Jade, and Jade turned to Olivia and smiled.

"Well, you're good to go. Apply this cream, and the rash will start to die down. Remember to stay on top of your allergy pills before going against another florakinesis wielder," Dr. Olivia explained. The girl thanked them and walked off. "You have a real knack for this, you know?" Jade beamed. "It's got to be getting difficult to balance this, the competition and all those meetings your father sets?"

"Sure, but I'm not going to have an experience like this again, and I don't want to lose it. Besides, my boss has been pretty relaxed." Olivia rolled her eyes, amused.

"Dr. Olivia, we have an emergency," Syren exclaimed.

Jade and Olivia stood up, but Jade's heart sunk when Edge entered. His eyes stilled on hers before she noticed the gash in his stomach. "Jade go grab your gloves," Olivia ordered. Jade rushed as Olivia got Edge on the bed. Olivia cleaned the wound and readied it for Jade's touch. Jade's eyes met Edge's before turning her attention to the wound. A glow encased her hands and held their position until his wound mended into a scar. "How did this happen?"

"Accident during training," Edge replied, his voice monotone. "Am I good to go, Doc?"

"Give us twenty minutes to ensure the heal sticks," Olivia instructed. "Jade, stay with him while I go tend to my next appointment, okay?" Jade frowned but nodded. She pulled up a seat beside Edge, the silence between them torture.

"I was hoping we weren't going to run into each other. Well, except for the battlefield. I look forward to that." Jade didn't reply. "Kind of rude of Findere's great new princess to not address that of a Finderian, hm?"

"I'm sorry. I had no way of knowing this would happen."

"Yeah. Why are you here anyway?"

"Just an opportunity," Jade shrugged. "I always wanted to be a doctor, remember?"

"Princess isn't glorious enough?" Jade rolled her eyes. "Testy, much?"

"Edge, I'm sorry we ended the way we did, but why do we have to do this whole song and dance. We're both old enough to hold ourselves accountable, aren't we?"

Edge adjusted himself, sitting straight up. He turned to her, his glare burning into her. "Not once, but twice you made a fool out of me, Jade. Now I have to see your damn face everywhere I look. Do you know how it is to have everyone ask you what happened between us? I'm sick and tired of coming up with some excuse for why you broke up with me."

"You were manipulating me, Edge."

"Not the whole time," he countered.

"It shouldn't have ever happened!" Jade bit her lip to hide her fury. "I never wanted you hurt or any of this to happen the way it did, but it happened. It's over, and there is nothing else I can say. I won't apologize for standing up for myself."

"You let Alex drag you down to your very core. You gave him everything that wasn't good enough for me, and you served it to him on a damn platter."

"I don't owe you anything because of my past with Alex," Jade scoffed. "You're being childish. All of this is such a stretch. You're an attractive guy, Edge. Take your pick of any girl, and I'm sure you could woo her."

"I wanted you," his gaze remained intense on her. "When you've had the top, there is nowhere to go but down." Jade sighed. "Who is it now? Back to Alex?"

"Alex and I are just friends."

"The prince?" Jade remained quiet. "Ah, there it is. You know these 'suitors' of yours are looking for alliances and nothing more. You think it's a coincidence that the very prince you wanted to meet happened to sweep you off your feet?" Jade bit her lip, she knew he was trying to get in her head, and she refused to believe his lies.

"Have you resorted to this, Edge? Leave me out of it if you want to ponder your misery." Jade checked the clock. "Five more minutes, and you're free to go." Jade looked down at his wound. "How did this happen?"

"My teammates and I don't always see eye-to-eye," Edge shrugged. "So, where is Alex these days? Still kissing the floor, you walk on?"

"Alex is happy with Joe."

"Hm, is that so?" Edge smirked. "Is he still taking those pills? I saw him that night at the castle with them." Jade's eyebrows lowered. "Oh, something the princess doesn't know?" Edge chuckled, "his father gave them to him. I heard them talking about you, and followed by a few choice words, William aimed toward Alex. He offered him the pills. The solution to forgetting the pretty Serf girl just enough to ignore every part of him being torn to shreds by her denial."

"You're lying."

"If you want to believe that. Though, you know, deep down, Alex's sudden change of heart surprised even you." Jade glanced away. "But I'm sure his happiness with Joe is as true as the sun is bright."

"Mind your mouth, Edge," Jade sneered. "Your time is up. You're good to go."

Edge stood up and crossed to her, using his height to attempt to intimidate her. Jade turned her head. "So tough now," he put his hand on her chin, but she pushed it away. "This new bite of yours is alluring." Edge smirked. "I'll have you under my spell again, Jade. Just wait and see." He walked out, leaving Jade's stomach sour. Taking another breath, she crossed back into Olivia's office and assisted with the next patient.
