• May 13, 2017 (Two days before Graduation Day) •

Zach had kept up his training schedule, managing it along with his studies. But now that exams had ended and they were given off until the graduation ceremony, he had much more time to spend on improving himself.

The national levels round was to be held in June and if he qualified in that race, he would finally make it to the international round, the very target he had been aiming at.

Usually, the beach would be empty at sunrise, the time he turned up for racing. As he made his tenth lap across the shore, he noticed that he wasn't alone.

Sitting on the bonnet of his car was Kara Danvers who waved over to him when she caught his eye.

Ever since he had gotten selected, he had been training alone because he didn't want to burden Ava or his friends too much. By then he had gotten accustomed to the silence and the tranquility of the solitary racing tracks or the shoreline.

But seeing Kara there put a smile on his face and he nodded, gesturing that he would join her after completing his routine of fifteen laps.

By the time he joined her, he was tired out but his stamina had improved from earlier as he didn't collapse on the ground or fall into an exhaustive slumber immediately.

He took the bottle of water she held out towards him and waited for some time before taking it to his lips, relishing the cold water as he drank it.

"You've gotten much better than before," Kara remarked, catching his gaze as he handed her bottle back to her, "I just know you're going to make it through the nationals."

"I really hope so," he replied, but then asked, "what are you doing here so early? The sun just rose up and usually, there's no one here at this hour."

She smiled, azure eyes twinkling lightly, "well, I came to see the two prettiest things ever. One, the sunrise, second, you."

He chuckled, sitting up on the bonnet beside her, "you flatter me, Kara."

"I do not. It's a pleasant sight, to see you here working so hard to achieve your dreams. I find that very admirable."

He looked up at the sky that had shaded golden all over, "Kara, do you remember the first time we met?"

"Yeah," she laughed, recalling the entire orange juice stain incident.

He laughed as well for that day was sure to be etched in their memories, "back then would you have thought a time would come for us to be here, like this, watching the sunrise together?"

"To be honest, no. At that time, I found you cute and polite. But that was it."

"Ava must have left quite a bad perception of me for you all, she never passes any opportunity to embarrass me in front of new people."

She thought for a while, "maybe. But why are you asking?"

"No reason," he shrugged but ten mended the conversation with another question. "What do you think of me now? After getting to know me by yourself."

He looked genuinely interested to know her answer as he turned to look at her, his brown eyes keenly observing each flicker of expression on her face.

The sun had lit her up as usual, golden rays engulfing her just like the time earlier when they had visited the beach on their second date.

"You're... You're one of a kind," she replied after a short pause, "or maybe it's just because I haven't met anyone like you before. To be honest, I haven't met many people. But I feel like even if I had, there would seldom be anyone like you."
