Dear Readers,
After so long, I have finally managed to complete this story and I can't express my joy and relief. I was so excited about this story when I started and it holds a very special place in my heart but while writing it, I have gotten stuck many times. And there were times when I thought I would never get to complete it yet here we are.
First of all, I want to thank all of you lovely people who read and supported my work and for that, I am very grateful because your constant motivation kept me writing the story:
And all those who I couldn't mention here, I am extremely thankful to you as well for reading this story and appreciating it.
This story had a special purpose and many subtle themes that I wanted to tackle through it. First and foremost was the whole idea of a relationship and what it means to you. I know some people are very excited about the prospect of being committed to their significant other but there are some people like Kara who are afraid of commitment.
I wanted to show that it's okay and normal for people to feel that way and if your partner needs space and doesn't want to put a label on the relationship then you should understand and talk it out with them. I'm not saying that commitment is bad but if it is something that your partner feels that should be earned with time then there's no harm in getting to know each other first, seeing if things would really work out and then getting committed when you are perfectly sure about your relationship. it should be a mutual decision between the two of you.
Also, it is very important for both people in a relationship to communicate what they want and what they expect so that they can sort things out mutually. I always emphasize on communication and the whole foundation of Zach and Kara's relationship also lies on this communication.
And then there was the theme of a potential second love interest which we saw in Mon-El's character. Initially, I wasn't going to include him but then ended up adding him and steering the story to a different track. But one thing that I was very certain of preventing this story from becoming was a Twilight or Vampire Diaries love triangle sort of cliche.
I am personally not so fond of love triangles and I think this was my first time writing something like that but I am glad it worked out just like I wanted it to. No unnecessary drama was caused because Kara and Zach talked it all out among them and cleared stuff up.
As I am sharing my experience of writing this story, I should also let you guys know that the final product is a lot different from what I had initially planned. A Million Reasons was going to be a much sadder and more tragic story but as I saw how much you guys loved the characters, I couldn't bring myself to cause pain to them so I changed the entire plotline except for the ending.
And this is one of the special cases in which I am not having second thoughts about following the initial draft because I am very glad about how this turned out nevertheless.
Another very important theme I tried to handle in this story was that of ambitions and fate. You all know how Zach was so ambitious and wanted to achieve his dream of becoming an athlete but fate entwined and he couldn't do so anymore. I wanted to portray his character's struggle to accept that fate and move on also as a message that no matter how hard life strikes you, you must pick yourself up and face the challenge. Because you can do it.
Zach had been dejected to the point that he thought everything in his life had ended and there was no reason for him to hold on. And that brings us to our final theme of love and support from family and friends. Zach's reasons to survive and move on were his family and friends who supported him and helped him out of the toughest time of his life.
The main message of this story is very clearly written in the Epigraph of this fanfic and I have also tried to use it as the central idea here: "One human being is equal to a hundred million reasons. And any of those reasons can either make life worth living or worth leaving."
It depends on us what reasons we give to the people around us and wouldn't it be better if we became a million reasons for our loved ones to be happy and find life worth living? If you think deeply about it, you will see how much meaning this holds.
This is not the end for the lovely characters of this story though. The story continues in the spinoff Adrenaline | C. Kent which focuses on Connor and Aviana's relationship. As you can guess already, it is going to be an even more chaotic ride compared to Zach and Kara but it will be twice more hilarious too.
I can't wait to start posting it but exams are coming up so maybe it will get delayed to August.
Hope to see you there nevertheless.
Have a lovely day and stay blessed.
Love from,
Zenina Dawson.
