I stood up, feeling a little nauseous. Overall I felt good, better than I had originally expected. I want to get back to flying now, but that's not even safe right now. It just breaks my heart that Nick cares this much. When he turned around he seemed to be quite shocked. My entire abdomen was numb due to the morphine. It was painful to get the shot, but it was very much worth it. I'm glad that he got that for me, so I could be temporarily free of pain. "You're up?" Nick asked.

"Yes, thanks for helping me. I greatly appreciate that." My mind wandered and found the sack that he pulled the morphine out of. He pulled a few rolls and a bratwurst out of it. He gestured for me to sit in the chair in front of the table. He pulled out the chair for me. I watched him take out some marmalade. Why would this Luftwaffe pilot care so much for me? Maybe I haven't seen the bigger picture yet. I am so lucky that he found me because if he did not then I would have died. He handed me two rolls and half the bratwurst first.

He sat across from me and he too began to eat a roll with marmalade. "Sorry it's not much. I am also so sorry about the morphine thing." Just the tone of his voice was enough to get me to say 'aww,' in my head of course. I chewed and savored each bite of the roll. It tasted like heaven, as I have never had anything like it before. It felt good to eat something. I smiled and told him that it was all okay and I was glad that he is helping me.

After I finished my first roll I decided to try the sausage. Based on what I already know about Germany I already knew that they most likely used Pig intestines for a casing. It didn't bother me at all. "Mm this sausage is so good. Thank you for bringing this for me. This is the best breakfast I've ever had, and that's not a joke." He smiled back and we continued to eat in silence for a moment. With each bite of bratwurst I was able to get a nice smoky flavor with a sweet sensation. I was the one that broke the silence. "So... why did you save me?" I asked him, thinking I would get a pretty straightforward answer. "Why did you save me? You knew I was American."

His perfect face looked up at me, "Marion, I did know you were American. I saw the flag on your plane before it blew up. Germany and America are on the same page -we are allies. Look, you have nothing to worry about. All is well, so please don't worry. Sure America moved east, which made some people mad, but it's alright. We're all over it now. Plus, not all people are like their political leaders. I hate bringing this up, as it is what every German fears. Take Hitler for example. Germans were not bad, it was Hitler that was bad. So does that make me a bad person? No, because I am not Hitler and it was he who caused a lot. I don't believe in what he said or did. That was wrong and it was awful. See, it's alright Marion. When I dragged your body over to this cabin I thought you were a guy. The uniform and everything. When I found out that you were a Fräulein I was in shock. You surprised me. I saved you because that's my obligation in life. You deserve a life as much as I do." When he said all of that I was literally crying so hard. He held both my hands over the table and rubbed the back of them with his thumb.

"Thanks... I really appreciate you. You have no idea because I could have been killed." I took a bite of my second roll because I finished my Bratwurst. Nick ate the other half of the sausage. The marmalade tasted unlike anything I've ever eaten before. It tasted like cinnamon and oranges. The marmalade was creamy and jelly all at the same time. My taste buds went crazy over the sweet and sour flavor. If this is really what a German breakfast is like, I'm in heaven. I sunk back in my chair as I savored each bite of the roll. It was like sweet bread with a tart marmalade. Sheer perfection if you ask me. "You know, you are right."

He stood up and walked over to the clapboard. Nick got some water bottles. "Möchtest du eine Wasserflasche?" He asked and I just gave the most dumbfounded look. I'm really pretending that I cannot speak German. He handed it to me anyway after not receiving a response. "Danke." I accidentally slipped. "Wow! You can speak German?" He asked in total shock. I was only able to say, "nein." Basically I told him no in a very assertive voice.
