(TW: description of death/beating.)
My blood was racing through my veins as my heart was beating at an inhuman pace, this was not right, none of this was right.
I felt like a scarred trapped animal huddled in a corner of a room that I didn't know, my only thought was to stay quite and not be found by whatever was after me.
"Where is she?" A voice that my brain seemed to recognize called out, the sound making my hands start to shake as I bring them up to cover my mouth, trying to muffle my hard breathing.
"I don't know." A girls voice replied sounding as if she was just as scarred as me.
I flinch as I hear a scream and then a girl with black hair that was a few years older then me falls to the ground, her eyes meeting mine as she cradled her cheek. For a split second I was afraid she would rat me out, but instead she looked away and got to her feet.
But, I wish she had ratted me out because I was to much of a coward to step forward as she was beat to the point of not moving, the sound of her strangled breathing was the only thing that let me know she was still alive. eleven year old me was a coward, I let someone else take a beating that was meant for me, I had been the one they were seeking, yet I hid and let this girl take the blows for me.
When I figured the man was gone I crawl out of my hiding spot from under the wardrobe, sitting on me knees next to her, my hands shaking worse as they hover over her body, not knowing what to do.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." I whisper as all I can do is watch as her breathing starts to slow as blood bubbled out of her mouth. She was drowning in her own blood and I didn't know how to help, I was useless.
Her one eye that wasn't swollen shut rolls over until it lands on me, in that moment I couldn't look away as the bright brown faded until it was dull and lifeless.
"No, no. Please, it's my fault. Don't die, please. I'm sorry." My voice grew thick as I chocked back sobs, even though she was dying I needed to be quite or they would find me.
Though all my fighting to stay quite was in vain as I felt arms loop around me and snatch me away from the dead girl.
*~*
"Seori, wake up!"
I let out a scream as I throw my hands out, trying to hit anything close to me.
"Calm down."
I snap my eyes open as I felt someone grab my hands, stopping their wild swinging. My breathing was loud and labored as I scan my surroundings, I was still in the cave and the sun was just now peaking through the thick morning fog.
"Are you okay?" Heeseung asked.
My eyes land on him and stay there for a moment before I shallow and nod my head. "Yeah, I'm fine."
"Bad dream?" He asked as he let my hands go.
"Yeah." I take notice that my screaming must have woke everyone up because they were all looking at me a little startled. "Sorry if I woke you." I say turning away and running a hand through me hair.
Lucky for me, no one says anything and leaves me to my thoughts as we put our sleeping things away and get ready to set off. Breakfast would be made up of fruit and bread that we would eat as we head down the mountain, we all just wanted to get away from this cave as fast as we could before something else happened.
~
Hours had passed since we had left the cave, the sun was now making its slow decent behind the mountains in the west casting long shadows behind us as we follow the setting sun.
