The entire way to the Devil's Bridge you've walked. All on your own, lost in your cursed mind. The cold is biting at the bare skin of your face and the dark clouds in the sky are blocking the bright winter sun. Any moment another storm can come. The clouds are painted with some dark green tint and the night has arrived early, it seems.
You're leaning on the railing of the bridge and looking down at where the Styx once used to flow. A river that was once littered with the corpses of a silent killer. A river in which there was more blood than water. A river that had been dried out years ago, after it made so many victims.
No, the Styx wasn't the one who made the victims. It was the mere murder weapon.
Your heart is beating in your chest peacefully as your hands are holding each other. It's not hard to imagine the Styx before it disappeared, before all of the people lost their lives in the ill water of the river of the dead. The chrysanthemums growing in the spring, the families swimming here in the summer, the children collecting chestnuts nearby in the fall and the couples skating on the frozen water in the winter. And as much as it's not hard, you wish it would be easier to have the impression that that time could actually return.
But no, that's not what people are busy with nowadays. Parents of the poorer have to work really hard for the money – so hard that they can barely even spend time with their children. Meanwhile, the parents of the richer are busy making more and more money, so that their child can have anything that they desire, even if all of that material is worth nothing compared to the love of a parent.
You wish that you could see people have fun with each other, like you have fun with Eret sometimes. No matter status or income or any of that shit, no. You wish that you could return to a time where a human was a human, no less than another and no more than another. But perhaps that's just nostalgia to a time you've never even experienced.
It's incredibly, isn't it? Technology gets more and more advanced and the City becomes more successful than it's ever been, yet there is not more happiness or humanity here. What even is the point of success when you can't even enjoy the little things in life? You're not against getting better, but you just wish that there was more focus on the things that actually matter.
Soon enough, the City is going to be a dystopia disguised as a utopia. A place where everyone would want to live, according to themselves, even though there's nothing to celebrate about it. Children having to be reminded of how great the City is, while it's crumbling more and more every day. It's a depressing thing to realize, but the truth nonetheless. A truth that not a lot of people will probably be able to come to terms with.
"Y/N? What are you doing here?" the low voice of Technoblade unexpectedly gets you out of your thoughts and you turn your head towards the pig-man. Even though you're not exactly waiting for hanging out with another person, you know that any type of distraction is welcomed after that idiotic date.
"I could ask you the same thing, Piggy Boy," you say with a slight smirk as he comes closer to you, trying to see what you saw before you looked away.
"I live nearby," he reminds you as he comes to stand next to you, also putting his hands on the railing. You guess that the cold doesn't bother him all that much. His skin is thicker than that of a human and it's not like he's walking around in summer clothes. And thanks to the cold and the likeliness for a thunderstorm, it's not that dangerous for him to walk around like this either. People would prefer to spend their time inside, probably.
You, meanwhile, are shivering. Because you assumed that you'd want to immediately go home after, you're not wearing a winter coat, simply your blue jacket. It's cold, yes, and you're shivering. But you don't mind all that much.
