Chapter Five : The Rescue

After scaring the remaining men away Jade had ran over to a severely wounded Slade and feared the worst until she felt his pulse as she spoke to herself, Thank God he's alive she said before attempting to awaken him. Arthur can you hear me? wake up she said to which Slade was unresponsive as she cursed to herself, Miss is everything alright? a voice behind Jade called out to which her head snapped back to look looking to the source of the voice. She turned to see an elderly man in a wagon pulled by a lone mule approach them as she spoke in a near panic, Please my friend he's hurt badly can you help him? she said holding back tears. The man had gotten of his wagon and examined Slade's wound before looking at Jade, that's a rather  nasty wound if it doesn't get dressed soon it could become infected the man said to which Jade wiped her face. Can you save him? Jade asked holding Slade in her arms as the man continued,  I can't but I know someone who can the man replied to which Jade nodded. Thank you so much she said before the man helped her up, put him in the wagon and we'll be off the man replied before helping Jade lift Slade into the wagon. He then uttered a pained moan to which Jade got in the back of the wagon to comfort him on the ride, Is he alright miss? The man said over his shoulder to which Jade shook her head. He's lost a lot of blood and is getting weaker she said trying to adjust herself to put pressure on his wound as the man continued, we'll go to my town Pinewatch its nearby there's a doctor there who can take care of your friend the man said before riding . After about twenty minutes they had made to the town of Pinewatch to which they brought Slade into the doctors office as the man called out, Marci get out here quick we have wounded he yelled to which moments later a small elderly women came running out to them. Alright we'll take it from here Marci said to which she had two men from inside carry Slade inside the inn. Will he be okay? Jade asked to which the man laughed, of course miss Marci here is the best damn doctor in town and she'll fix your friend up good, the man said to which Jade felt relieved. By the way what's your name if its not too much trouble the man continued to which Jade responded, No trouble at all its Jade , Jade Lestrade she replied to which the man smiled. the names Joseph Miles he said to which Jade grinned briefly. After about four hours of waiting a man had called them to come inside to see Marci as Jade was the first to speak, Is he alright? she asked to which she responded. Of course dear He lost a lot of blood but I managed to clean and stitched him up and he'll be alright Marci said to which Jade smiled. Can I see him Jade asked to which Marci smiled before getting up to respond. Of course dear though I must say he is very lucky to be alive with an injury like that a few more inches to the left, and he wouldn't have made it he's tough stock Marci had replied cleaning herself up. Anyways he should be awake by now plus he kept muttering someone named Jade, all the while through the operation on the times he regained conciseness which I assume you are whom he was talking about. She said this grinning before Jade thanked them both before heading to Slade's room, As she got to the door she then paused before she thought about him and how he almost died. She still hesitated for a moment before putting her hand on the door knob, he was too close to death this time again I have to tell him now or I will never get to she said to herself before inhaling. Exhaling she held the knob as she knocked on the door to which moments later she heard Slade's voice on the other side reply to the knock, gathering all her courage to face him Jade wiped her face and opened the door getting ready to see him.
