Chapter Twelve : The Slums

The two and their Assassin Officers had made it to the slums at about eleven in the morning much earlier then they planned, though as described the slums was a dirty grimy place with a smell that was utterly awful which hit their noses as they exited their vehicles. Oh bloody hell that smell it's nearly burning my nose, maybe I shouldn't have worn my favorite shirt here Jade said holding her nose. She said this to which the two officers John and Ashley had then stepped out of the car, as they then started to survey the area and gathering their own gear and giving Jade an air freshener to smell. Slade had stepped out as well and began to smell the air around him to which he also grabbed his nose, just as Jade had done before Ashley then walked up. Wait I know that smell  it's unmistakable sir there is methane in the air, highly flammable I would advise caution in traversing this enclosed area. She said this to which Slade then pulled out his lighter and began to flick it. Lighting it caused the air near it to spark to which he had flipped it back closed quickly as to not start a reaction as Jade replied. Good observation Mrs. Crawford She's right Slade we'll have to be careful, Jade said to which Slade then retrieved communicators from the back of the car as he spoke again. Right we'll gain more ground and get things done quicker if we split up Jade you and Ash check the east , me and John will check west but keep chatter to a minimum who knows who may be listening. Slade said this before handing them each a communicator, as he then had slung a rifle over his shoulder as Jade had clipped her communicator to her belt before replying. Okay we'll regroup here at one to see what we all have found out you two be careful, remember we're on channel three radio if you guys need help and we'll do the same. She said this as she had grabbed her own rifle from the car before walking away with Ashley, leaving Slade and John alone to which he then clipped his own communicator on before speaking. Alright just us guys now lets get moving John we'll go door to door and ask around of any suspicious activity here, and I sure hope that you've been practicing your French this is Paris after all not many English speakers here. Slade said this to which John then nodded before grabbing his pack and joining him on their walk. For the past hour they went door to door asking questions and each time they came up empty handed, as eventually getting both tired and frustrated they decided to take a much needed break on a nearby bench as John had immediately plopped down. Does nobody in this place know anything about the Templars?, we've been asking around for a while and nothing save for people claiming illegal trash dumping here which explains the smell besides the methane John said removing his hood to wipe his face. Easy my friend remember no matter where the answers lie the true ones will present themselves in time, Slade replied also removing his hood as John simply sighed as he spoke again. I guess your right on that one Grandmaster in any case what's the time? John said this before grabbing a water bottle out of his backpack as Slade then checked his Pocket Watch before speaking again. About twelve thirty now almost at the regrouping time and come on what's all this Grandmaster talk , I'm still Slade John nothing much has really changed in that regard. He said this smirking again checking the time on his watch to which John sighed before speaking again. Think the ladies found anything yet? surely they'd have had to have learned something anything at least. John asked this to which Slade then preceded to get up, before he unclipped the communicator from his belt as he replied to him. let us find out shall we hopefully they fared better than us Slade said before talking into his communicator to which it was static. Jade do you read me? over this is Slade how is your progress? hello? can you hear me? over. He spoke into the communicator again to which only static could be heard with the exception, of Jade's muffled voice as she managed to come through briefly. This is Jade over we're having a hard time hearing you the signal is very weak hello? can you both hear us? She replied back through the static though she had been badly breaking up to which Slade had trouble hearing, or understanding what she was saying to which he tried to reach her again. I can barely hear you guys over there where are you? what is your present location? over. He said this tying his best to hear them through the static to which after a few minutes Jade's voice had returned though severely muffled. We're in the market taking a break from walking, what about you guys? how are things on your end? Jade replied back though she had begun to break up again, as Slade had quietly cursed the faulty equipment before speaking again. In the square our trail has gone cold I repeat the trail has gone cold hello? Jade can you hear me?, Ashley? can any of you read me hello? anyone there damn it!. Slade cursed again to which he then tapped the communicator, with his hands repeatedly before placing it at his side as John had then replied to his frustration. What's going on with the signal surely we can't be that far out of signal range? He asked Slade who was again trying to get the signal back to which he then replied. There must be too much interference in their area that and this damn outdated faulty equipment, maybe they'll contact us later but for now we should get moving he said getting up. Though before Slade could even move Jade's voice had come over the communicator again much clearer but sounding panicked which caught him off guard.  Slade! do you copy this is Jade we have a situation need immediate help, I repeat we have an immediate situation please answer over. As she could be heard sounding more panicked Slade sensing the urgency in her voice had answered without delay. This is Slade I read you what's happened are you alright hello Jade can you hear me? He said this into the communicator to which silence could be heard until Jade's voice returned as she replied. You guys have to get down here now officer down, I repeat Ashley is down need immediate help in the market please hurry. She replied before switching off the channel to which Slade now alarmed had quickly slung his backpack over his shoulder as he called out to John. John! we need to move fast something has happened to Ashley. He said this while getting his gear on in a split second before motioning for John to hurry as he replied. What happened? the girls are they alright Slade? what's the situation? John asked this as they then started sprinting to which Slade began talking quickly while keeping pace with John not too far behind. Jade contacted me and said something has happened to Ash and for us to hurry to their location, now come on we got to move double time guns out who knows what we're running into he exclaimed. With that both Slade and John then hurried to the girl's location fearing the worst.
