The blizzard's winds were cold and the night itself was dark as Slade and John made their way to the blockage on the tracks, but upon exiting they knew something was amiss as Slade shouted over the winds. Here clip this harness to my belt so we don't get separated the storm is getting worse don't wanna get lost out here, he said before handing John the harness clip as the latter adjusted his goggles before replying. I can't see shit out here Slade he said before brushing the snow from his face, to which Slade began shivering as the brisk winter air reached him as he reached into his harness for flares. It's dark out here indeed take these flares so we don't lose our way, he said lighting the first flare and placing it on the ground. As they walked they dropped flares and soon, the blockage began to get closer and closer as Slade paused mid stride to shout over the howling winds. Look! over there is that  a tree that is blocking the tracks? he yelled to John to which he merely nodded as they continued walking. Slade and John had made it to the tree, to which they attempted to move it as Slade grunted in frustration. Damn it! the snow has really wedged it come on lets try again, he exclaimed as John moved in to join him at his side after getting a sturdy footing. Together now push on my signal Slade said to which John and him had centered themselves , and got a firm grip on the tree before he gave the signal. Push! Slade yelled to which they both started pushing with all their strength which caused the tree to move slightly off the tracks as the two sighed from the exertion. Okay one more push like that should do it, John said before he and Slade grabbed the tree once again with a much tighter grip. Slade had then began counting down from three to which they pushed with all their might causing the tree to completely roll off of the tracks as they clapped the snow from their hands. There we go the tracks are clear lets try to get back, its freezing out here John said to which Slade nodded before they began to head back. Though as they walked Slade had felt that something was off, to which he signaled John to come closer as he dropped another flare. Is it me or does it feel odd out here? like we are being watched? he said to which John stopped for a moment before looking around as he spoke. Slade look there John said to which he pointed at the ground near the latter's feet. Slade then had bent down to examine the animal tracks to which he looked at John who knelt besides him to get a better look. Wolf Tracks and by the looks of it there still fresh, he said before getting up to which John motioned him to listen. As the two had risen to their feet, they could hear the sounds of howling in the distance followed by the sounds of snapping twigs as Slade had whipped his head in that general direction. Back to back now were being hunted and from the sounds of it they are closing in for an ambush, Slade said alerted before taking his rifle off of his shoulder to which John did the same. loading his rifle Slade then stood quiet with John at his back listening and waiting, with nothing but the sounds of the blizzard around them. Just then out of the brush a timber wolf charged towards them on  at a quick pace growling and snarling, which could easily be heard through the storm. Slade seeing the wolf first took aim with his rifle and fired one shot which missed the still charging wolf as he cursed to himself before reloading, though John aiming his own gun  shot the animal down dead but not before another wolf rushed them. John on your left look out! Slade said as he took aim with his rifle and fired off a shot, which grazed the wolf's ear though it still kept his fast pace. Though Slade struggled to aim his rifle through the thick snow , he soon got his bearings and fired a shot that hit the wolf point blank in the head. The wolf's body doubled over dead at their feet, though this victory was short as yet  another wolf leaped through the brush bringing him to the ground. Slade fought back as the wolf tried to pick him off ultimately scratching him right below his left eye, which caused him to groan in pain as he punched the wolf in the snout causing it to briefly whimper in pain. John then kicked the wolf off of him to which Slade drew his pistol, and fired four bullets into the wolf killing it as he struggled to stand to his feet before speaking. John....we must get back to the train there could be more of them in the woods, he  said to which John noticed the bleeding scratch on his face from the attack as he rushed over to him. Slade your hurt we have to get you back double time come on follow the flares mate, he said to which Slade felt the wound on his face feeling a stinging pain before he replied. Don't worry about this John its just a scratch right now we have to get back, back to the train back to the girls Slade said ripping a piece of his cloak off and placing it on his face as the two made the walk back to the train with the blockage cleared.
