ISABELLE

DECEMBER 29th, 2017

I hum and softly bop my head to the music coming from my earphones, eyes scanning the outfit I picked. It is my 17th birthday today so me and my friends decided to hang out. Not that we do not spend time together on a usual day.

Oh god. We are like those people.

Looking in the mirror, I take one earphone out, smiling softly at my dad who is stood near the door, "Happy birthday, beautiful." Tell me you are a daddy's girl without telling me.

I run towards him, shoving my face in his chest, wrapping my arms around him and mumbling, "Thank you."

No matter how old I get, I will never stop showing my dad how much I love and appreciate him.

"Look at you!" He chuckles, pushing my baby hairs out my face, "Growing up to be a beautiful woman."

I roll my eyes playfully, smiling softly and kissing my dad's cheek. My dad always tries his best to make me happy or laugh. He always puts me first and that is why I love him.

And, because he makes killer falafels.

"Here you go." Mumbling a thank you, I take the wrapped gift from him and set it on my bed, "I'll open it later."

"When's he coming round?" He glanced at his watch, rolling his eyes at the sound of the door slamming shut downstairs, "Never mind."

I laugh softly, shutting the door behind me as we walk downstairs. A smile paints on my face at the sight of Kane sat on my sofa.

He acts as if it was his house.

Not that I do not do the same to his- but never mind.

My dad kisses my head once more before disappearing into his office, not even bothering to greet Kane. Him and Kane get along well, which I am glad. Do not know what I would do if my dad and best friend did not get along. It would be a weird situation.

Taking this as my chance to check him out, my lips curl in agreement, liking the black loose jeans and grey muscle shirt. He man spreads his legs, one arm spread at the top of the sofa, while the other folds over his stomach.

He looks hot. As always.

Kane is gym freak. If he is not with me, he is either at the gym or asleep. If he were not wearing that leather jacket, which I am glad he is, I would have gotten a good look at his toned arms.

Creep.

"Help yourself, Reed." He snaps his head towards me, standing up slowly, taking his time to scan myself and outfit. "C'me here."

I love his eyes on me. Is that weird to think? No.

I snort, running into his outstretched arms and wrapping my arms around his waist, secretly loving the way his body feels against mine.

"Happy birthday, Izzy." His warm breath fans the side of my face and I smile softly, looking up at him from my position, "Thank you."

"You look beautiful," He mumbles, thumb stroking my cheeks, blue eyes dilating. My face heats up, turning bright red.

Fuck. I look like a tomato.

"You look nice," I mutter, grabbing my jacket from the sofa. "Got dressed just for you." He winks at me, and I chuckle, shaking my head.

We get into his car, conversing between us. He hands me his phone, letting me pick out a song for the drive.

Kane and I have never hidden anything from each other. Just like I have his password and access to his phone whenever, he has mine. I trust him and I know he trusts me.

"How's it feels being 17?" He offers me his hand after opening my door, gladly accepting it, I glare at him, "Shut up."

"What." He chuckles, keeping our hands twined while we walk to our friend's house. "I hate how you always ask that," I pout, "Why'd you have to be a month older than me."

He laughs, pushing my head softly when I begin to whine. Kane always asks me that every birthday, thinking it is the funniest joke ever. It is not but I cannot help but laugh when he says it. He always has this cute expression on his face.

"Birthday girl!" Marcus squeals, pulling me away from Kane, much to his dismay, and wraps his arms around me, shaking me side to side. "Hello Marcus."

I can feel my brain rattle.

Looking over his shoulder, I see Thomas, our other friend and Marcus's boyfriend stood there, a soft smile on his face. "Hi Tom!"

"Hey," he mutters, "Gimme a hug." Marcus pouts but let us me go. Crashing into Thomas, I hug him.

Marcus and Thomas live together so they have their own house, which is big, so no parents. I would love to live alone at the age of seventeen.

But then again, I do.

"What's planned tonight?" Kane pulls me towards him, my back against his chest, his arms wrapped around my waist, chin on my head. I lean into his embrace, placing my hands on his.

"Awh," Marcus coos,"Y'all look like a couple." I roll my eyes, scowling, "Shut up!"

Kane does not say anything, only chuckles and tightens his grip around me in a possessive way. Caveman.

Soon we are all spread on the sofa, food scattered around us, TV playing a movie only Marcus is watching and a comfortable silence between us all. Birthday or not, we all somehow end up like this.

"Hey," Kane murmurs in my ear, pulling me closer against his chest, "Happy birthday."

I am sat between his legs, back against his chest, his arms around my waist, head shoved between my neck. He is like my personal heater. I know it's unusual for two friends to sit like this, I've been told many times, but Kane's always been affectionate ever since we were kids. He'd always find a way to hold me, whether it was my hand, arm or finger.

"You're the best," I whisper, leaning up and kissing his cheek, "Thanks for everything."

He really is.

He smiles softly at me, kissing my forehead. I bite my lip and turn towards the Tv, a smile covering my face. Ever since I saw him in the park, we've been inseparable.

He is my everything. I hope he knows that.
