ISABELLEHands twisted in my hair, i nervously nibble on my bottom lip and stare at the floor. I've been coming here for the past two weeks, only to end up going home with a broken heart. I'm surprised i'm here at this point.
Everyday i come here, either with the boys, or without, and i sit in Kanes room, only to get overwhelmed with watching him lie lifeless on the bed, and leave the room. It's hard.
Sighing, i push my hair out my face, stand up, and walk to Kanes room. He hasn't woken up yet. The doctors said he had a minor cardiac arrest due to liver, kidney, and heart failure. All the substances he's been taking, using, and drinking, have destroyed his ovaries. Nearly killed him. They said he was lucky to have survived.
Lucky to have survived.
Sniffling, i push the door open and force my feet to move in. As always, Kane's lying there, eyes closed, skin pale, dry and cold. His body looks tense as he lies there. Body covered by sheets and a blanket i brought from home, he lies quietly, with the machine beeping steady beside him.
The first week, Kane had a tube down his throat to help him breathe, but thankfully, he started to do it himself. The doctors said his brain thankfully doesn't look affected and any more damage to his body will cause problems.
I didn't even know he started using again. My fault for giving up on him.
Sitting in the chair beside the bed, i hold his cold hand in mine and lean my elbows on the bed, keeping my eyes trained on him. The mask fogs up slightly with each breathe, his chest hardly moving up. I wouldn't be able to tell he's alive if it wasn't for the machine constantly beeping.
Keeping my hand in his, i move the chair and make myself comfortable, knowing today is one of my good days, and i won't be moving from here. Grabbing the remote, i switch the small monitor on and watch whatever's on.
I tighten my hand around his, silently willing him to wake up.
Thomas has gone Manchester, so Marcus will be coming alone to visit. I've also finally told my dad about Kane, and he was silent for the most of it. I think it shocked him to his core. He's trying his best to come visit. I hope he does. I really need him right now.
The door creaks, i move my head slightly, a polite smile making its way on my face at the sight of the nurse walking in.
"Hello lovely," she coos, "how you feeling?" She's a short, sweet woman, who reminds me of a grandma. She's a morning nurse, so i see her every morning.
"I'm good, Janice, and you?"
Janice hums, walking to the side of the room where a cabinet is situated. She pulls out some keys from her pocket and unlocks the locker. Janice takes out a notepad and walks towards the side of the bed, checking out Kane's canister and pipes.
"Busy, busy morning today." She mutters, eyes on Kane's machine. She jots a few things down. "It's one for the staff's birthday, so they are planning a birthday party. It's lovely."
I smile at her words, loving the carefree tone she holds.
"Oh, that's nice."
"Hmm, yes, it is. And i hear it's a chocolate cake." Janice sends a cheeky smile my way, her smile lines deepening. I can't help but smile back. I wiggle in the chair, and hold Kane's hand tighter, my thumb caressing it softly.
Janice locks the notebook away and checks out the drip bag connected to Kane.
"Think we're unhooking these today." My spine tenses. "We have some specialists coming in to check on him today, so we may need you to step out due to not knowing who his legal guardian is."
