San shot up from his bed panting excessively, beads of sweat ran down his forehead. It was the same nightmare he had almost every night: The exact replay of the night the siblings lost their parents. It was a vivid nightmare, San could feel everything he felt back then. The heaviness in his chest keeping his tight against the wall. Eun-Ji's blood curdling scream from beside him. The memory came back to him more often that he'd ever care to admit. He looked over to his sister, chest rising and falling at a perfect rhythm. He sighed while dragging his hands down his tired face before slipping out from under the covers.
San was careful of slipping his shoes on, as to not wake Eun-Ji. He pulled up his black hoodie, holstered his own gun, and snuck as quietly as he could out the door. San figured fresh air would allow him to clear his mind. San kept his head down and set off on his walk. He always kept a guard up, even when he wasn't necessarily looking up. He was always aware of the sounds around him.
There was a spot San tended to go to when he needed to clear his head. It had a beautiful view of the lake that ran through the city and a bench that was sat right off to the side. He took a deep inhale before sitting himself on the bench, letting the breeze blow through his black hair, letting tints of green show through. San sat in silence before hearing footsteps approach behind him. San quietly placed a hand on his gun that hid under the bottom of his hoodie, ready to fight if need be.
"Hey.... San, was it?" The voice came from a male. San looked up and over to the body it came from and immediately recognized it as Woo Young. San exhaled the breath he didn't realize he was holding and let his hand fall from the gun.
"Ah, yeah. It's Woo Young?" San responded timidly. Woo Young smiled, making San's heart skip. He swallowed hard, trying to not let his anxiety show through.
"Aw.. You remembered," Woo Young teased, "mind if I join you?"
San slid over to make room for the younger. Woo Young noticed a bit of San's neck was showing, revealing the bruises that wrapped around his neck. "What happened?" Woo Young asked, motioning to the bruises. San was quick to pull the neck of his hood up.
"Just a fight with some idiot," San replied, not necessarily lying, but not speaking the whole truth. Woo Young gave San a worried look, "I'm fine, Woo Young. Honest. What has you out this early?"
Woo Young directed his gaze towards the lake, "I like to take walks in the morning before my first class. Relieves the stress of college, ya know?" He replied, looking back to San, meeting the older's eyes. San's eyes represented to cups of coffee, the brown almost swirling. It caused Woo Young to become suddenly flustered, but yet he couldn't break his stare.
"I wouldn't know," San replied, breaking the eye contact. His heart was in his throat, "I dropped out when I was 14." Woo Young cocked his head to the side, showing obvious curiosity, and San noticed this, so he chose to continue, "Eun-Ji an I have been on our own since we were kids.... Our parents died young," He explained, "I dropped out so I could care for Eun-Ji, make sure she could still go... It didn't last long. She dropped out at 13,"
Woo Young nodded in understanding, he looked down to his feet, "I'm truly sorry for your loss, San," Woo Young looked back up to San, resting a comforting hand on San's thigh. His stomach flipped, but he didn't dare move Woo Young's hand. San couldn't understand the feelings he had. Especially since they were towards another male. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves, then turned to meet Woo Young's eyes.
"It okay, truly." San responded softly. The two kept their gaze locked. Woo Young broke the gaze long enough to glance to San's lips, then back to his eyes. San's heart threatened his ribs. The tension grew thick in the air. San broke the gaze and cleared his throat, trying to find his voice, "You best be going yeah? Don't want to be late for class," He forced a smile after mentally shaking off his nerves.
