Eun-Ji woke that morning and stretched out wide before remembering Yeosang was next to her. She was struck with the reminder that she was no longer in a motel room, but in an actual apartment. A place she could comfortably call home for the time being. She sat up and gazed down to a peaceful Yeosang. She smiled as she leaned down to plant a kiss on his forehead before hearing a noise from the main living space. She darted her eyes up, reaching for the pistol she had placed in the drawer next to her the night before. She slowly removed herself from the covers, careful to not wake the male, and crept quietly down the hall.
She pressed her back up to the wall and held the gun close. She heard another small sound and she flew from around the corner, pointing her pistol, "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Woo Young shouted as he put his hands up, "Just me!"
Eun-Ji released the gun and lowered it, "Jesus," She sighed heavily, "I almost shot you,"
"Clearly!" Woo Young lowered his hands, "I was just setting up for breakfast. San is still sleeping, and so was everyone else. So I wanted to get a head start," He explained, pointing to the table he had been setting up, explaining the clinks and noises she heard from Yeosang's room. "I'm sorry I startled you,"
Eun-Ji shook her head and set the gun down on the cream wood shelf next to her, "It's your house, I am just always on guard. How can I help you?" She asked, walking to the table and slightly shifting a plate, "I make a good bungeoppang, according to San," She smiled softly.
Woo Young thought a moment. The sweet red bean pastry does sound delicious. "Okay, sure! use whatever you need," He motioned to the kitchen, the savory aromas from the meals he was preparing wafted into the dining, filling Eun-Ji's nose with a warm scent. Eun-Ji made her way to the kitchen, "Trays are in the bottom cabinet, by the stove, bowls are above it," He indicated to the cabinets located to the left of the stove.
Eun-Ji grabbed a bowl from the top cabinet, then the tray from the bottom. She went to the fridge and grabbed any ingredient she would need to create her dish.
...
Yeosang woke up the sweet, yet savory smell coming from the kitchen. He let the scent lift him from the bed with a big stretch, followed by a muffled yawn. He swung his feet off the bed and stood, following the scent to the kitchen. "Hmm, smells great, Woo," He greeted his younger brother before he saw Eun-Ji in front of the stove, helping to finish up the rest of the meal. He smiled and walked behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting a chin on her shoulder. "Good morning, princess." He cooed.
"Alright you two," Woo Young chuckled, "I am going to wake Sann-ah up before the breakfast gets cold,"
...
San looked around the room in a cold sweat. Things had been pushed into the wall with a force stronger than his own. He ran his fingers through his hair, then clenching his hands into tight fists while grabbing handfuls of his knotted hair. He shakily took his hands from his hair and looked at them. His trembling thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door to the bedroom.
"Sann-ah, It's Woo, can I come in?" Woo Young called through the birch colored door. San felt his heart racing as he whipped his head towards the voice.
"Aish.." He mumbled, "Yah, one minute!" He called back, rushing to the dresser he had forced into the closet, pressing his back against it and pushing it across the floor back to its normal spot. Woo Young heard the sound of the heavy object being pushed against the floor. San was quick to pick up the few figures and set them back on the glass shelf that was somehow un-harmed, then ran back to fix the nightstand and lamp that looked as though it had gone through a tornado.
"San, what're you doing?" Woo Young asked, "I'm coming in," He announced as he went to turn the door knob He opened it to be greeted by San and a perfectly in-tact room. "Sann-ahh, what was all the noise?"
"Hm? Nothing nothing. I fell off the bed," San chuckled through his lie, then the scent of fresh food filled his nostrils, "Mmm, something smells good," He smiled, taking Woo Young's hand and leading them towards the fresh meal.
Woo Young could feel San was on edge, but he couldn't place why. He let San guide him to the kitchen to see that Eun-Ji and Yeosang had set up the table perfectly. Eun-Ji was just pulling her pastry from the oven. "Good morning," Yeosang greeted with a soft tone as he filled the tea kettle to boil some water for his morning tea.
Eun-Ji looked to San, noticing her sibling was anxious about something. San refused eye contact with anyone, out of fear of what would happen. He stormed into the kitchen seeming confident, but as soon as he was surrounded, his confidence dwindled. Eun-Ji approached Woo Young and placed a hand on his shoulder, as to tell him she would be taking San for a moment.
Woo Young nodded in agreement as Eun-Ji took San's hand, leading him back down the hall and into Yeosang's room, closing the door behind them. "Oppa, what's your deal? You're acting so nervous," She asked as soon as she knew it was safe to do so.
"I'm fine, Eun, honest. Let's just go eat breakfast," San insisted, trying to push past her to go to the door. Eun-Ji grabbed his arm to stop him.
"San, you're my brother. I know when you're lying. Talk to me, please," Eun-Ji pressed, making San feel more anxious than he already was.
"Eun.. now is really not the time to talk about it, okay?" He said, looking her directly in the eyes, his normal dark chocolate brown had turned to a deep forrest green.
"San... your eyes," Eun-Ji mumbled, just quiet enough San couldn't hear her.
"What?" San asked, tilting his head to the side. Eun-Ji took San by the hand and pulled him to the mirror placed in the corner of Yeosang's room, pointing to it.
"Your eyes, San." She stated with a more firm tone than before. San looked at her with a baffled expression. She rolled her eyes then forced his head to face the mirror, "Look! Your eyes are green." She put emphasis on the color as San leaned in, widening his eyes to get a better look. What he was met with was an unusual reflection. His eyes reflected that of spruce leaves. He blinked once, hard enough to see stars before opening his eyes again just to see the same odd color.
"What the hell," He muttered, "What? How?" He looked to Eun-Ji, hoping she had some sort of answer. But he was met with silence from the latter. "How does someone's eyes just change?" He asked again, looking back to the reflection, startled again by what he saw.
Eun-Ji shook her head, "I don't know.." She thought for a moment, "San.. maybe we should summon Mingi..."
San whipped his head back, "Are you out of your mind? We are not summoning that red-eyed cockroach," He snarled, "He will do nothing for us, you understand?" He sighed, "Right now, we need to just forget it, alright? We are fine," He said in a soothing tone, now.
"But what if we're not? San what if we aren't even human?" Eun-Ji tried to explain but was only met with San's death glare.
"Never question what we are. We are not one of those monsters we hunt. We are human, and that is that. We're finished,"
"But-" Eun-Ji tried to speak.
"End of discussion, Eun-Ji!" San snapped his interruption, "Let's eat before it get's cold," He said with a monotone voice, walking out the door and leaving Eun-Ji alone in the room.
Eun-Ji sighed and looked at herself in the mirror. She lifted her shirt to reveal where there should be several long scars, only to see completely clean skin. Like it never even happened.
She had completely healed herself.
