The Dinner Party

The atmosphere was near palpable.

"Damon, where's Elena and Stefan?" I tried not to care about how dangerous this all was. How I was sitting between the most powerful vampires in history and my sweet, blissfully ignorant Aunt was somehow dragged in the middle of it.

"They went on a little trip." Damon cut into his meat more aggressively than was strictly necessary. "To get away from everything. Speaking of which, I see that you're finally feeling better."

"Yeah, I just needed a nap was all." This was so awkward.

"I'm glad you got some rest." Jenna smiled at me. "I think I'm more confused on why you came here with Elijah."

"I was showing Elijah the way and Drew happened to be walking in the same direction. With all the animal attacks, I thought it was safer to go in numbers." Klaus sipped his drink.

"How considerate of you." John deadpanned.

"That was nice of you Ric." Jenna set her napkin on the table. "Who's up for desert?"

"I'll help." Caroline got up. Jeremy kept trying to get my attention, I stared at my plate resolutely.

As soon as they were out of sight, Elijah spoke. "Whatever pitch you're going to try and make, I'd do so quickly."

"How about this, leave the Gilberts alone." Damon set his fork down. It clattered against the plate. "Even better, leave this town."

"And why would I do that?" Klaus leaned back in his chair, clearly amused. "What power do you have that could possibly hurt me. Certainly not that little witch of yours. She'll die if she uses that much magic."

"Drew." Jeremy looked hurt.

"I didn't say anything, I swear."

"She didn't need to, I've picked up a thing or two over the course of my long life."

"What's your interest in Drew? Elena, I understand, she's a doppelgänger, but Drew is just a normal seventeen year old." John steepled his fingers.

Elijah tutted. "If she wishes to divulge that information, we will let her do so." Liar. "But for now, all you need to know is that she will be safe."

"Oh don't be coy, brother. She's extra incentive for the lot of you to stay out of my way."

Jeremy and I made eye contact. I wish I could talk to him.

"Can we all stop talking about me like I'm not in the room?" I finally snapped, turning to John. The tension in the room was going to irritate those with explosive tempers, and I'd like to avoid that. "You stay out of this. You lost your right to be both Elena's father and our uncle." Now Damon. "You aren't helping anything." And finally, the brothers. "I realize I don't have a lot of power, but don't think for a second I wont run, because I will, and the two of you won't expect it when I do. Let's finish this negotiation before Jenna gets back. We don't need to drag her into this mess."

"Yeah!" Jeremy held up his knife in support.

It made me smile.

John shook his head. "You're a teenager. Why are you even mixed up in all this nonsense?"

"Have care how you speak to Drew. While my deal with Elena holds, you are not protected by it." Elijah warned.

"And I am under no such contract to keep any one of you alive. Once I have my body, the real fun will begin." Klaus cut into his food. "The sacrifice will happen, there is nothing any of you can do to stop it."

"Oh no, what ever shall we do." Damon smirked behind his drink.

Elijah and Klaus both grasped their heads in sync.

"What the hell is happening?" I stood.

John and Damon worked in tandem to inject something into the Originals' necks. Jeremy dove across the table and tackled me to the ground just as Klaus' arms swiped at the air where my head just was.

Perhaps it was the fact that Klaus was inhabiting a human body, but he went down first, crumpling against his chair. Elijah made one more swipe for John but was as unsuccessful as his brother and he too fell prey to whatever had actually happened.

"Did it work?" Bonnie crept out from behind the hidden door that lead to the cellar.

Damon downed the rest of his drink. "They never saw it coming."

"We need to get them out of here before Jenna comes back." Jeremy helped me up.

I glanced toward the kitchen. "Shouldn't She have already been back? I feel like she's been in there a while."

"You've never seen Caroline try to cook." Bonnie smiled. "I'll glad that you're feeling better though Drew."

"Yeah, we missed seeing you." Jeremy threw an arm around my shoulders.

"Now that the Original Douches are unconscious, you mind explaining why the hell you were really with them?" Damon grabbed Klaus' hands, dragging him toward the cellar. John and Bonnie followed him with Elijah.

"They literally kidnapped me on my way here. No one was home when I woke up and I assumed this is where Elena was at least."

"We'll finish this when the very dangerous vampires we just pissed off are safely locked away."

I watched as the men who are supposedly supposed to become my future in-laws were dragged downstairs. Should I have done something?

As soon as they were gone, Jeremy turned to me. "What do you want to do?"

"We're already passed convincing Klaus to let anyone live. Especially after this whole stunt. Elijah isn't one to be underestimated either." I began to pace. "Jer, we're so dead."

"Don't you have-"

I quickly slapped a hand over his mouth, tapping a finger on my ear. "Indisposed. We don't even know if those doors down there can hold an Original."

"That's where you're wrong Little Gilbert." Damon reappeared, shutting the hidden door behind Bonnie and John. "Bon Bon here did a little magic mumbo jumbo with the help of her lovely ancestors and voila, the cells can hold uber powerful vampires."

We took our seats at the table in time for Jenna and Caroline to walk through, a pan of brownies held out triumphantly. Caroline looked like she'd lost a battle with flour.

Jenna was none the wiser.
