I adjusted my outfit slightly, feeling a little self conscious in the short dress. The loud music filling my ears, a hoard of teenagers dancing to decades old tunes.
I spotted Ric by the punch bowl, Damon was dancing with Bonnie, Elena with Stefan, Jeremy was walking to the refreshment table, Caroline with Matt.
Caroline and I were supposed to hang out, but thankfully Matt came in and asked her to the dance at the last second. It was a much needed distraction. None of them knew I was here, but I couldn't just let Bonnie die, not if I could do something about it.
Especially after we had that fight earlier.
I did feel bad. Bonnie had really liked Luka and I knew exactly what to say to hurt her. I still can't believe all that happened.
My promise to Elijah was nagging at me. Why did I have to feel so guilty about it?
Bonnie and Damon finally separated from everyone else and I jumped at the chance. "Hey Bon, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked. Damon's eyes widened.
"What are you doing here?" He grabbed my arm. "You're supposed to be home."
"I needed to speak to Bonnie." I glanced at her, shooting her a knowing look.
"We'll be right back Damon" The witch grabbed my wrist pulling me away from the rest of the crowd and heading toward an empty classroom.
As soon as the door was closed, I rounded on her. "You can't beat Klaus, that amount of magic will kill you." She just looked down, folding her arms. "You knew. You knew and you weren't going to tell any of us."
"If it means Elena can live!"
"No, Bonnie, you can't sacrifice your life, Elijah's going to fix it, he'll make sure she doesn't die." She just looked at me.
"How do you know that?"
"If he can't get to Klaus, I can stop him." It might have been hypocritical, but it was better me than her.
It would be a last ditch effort, but it'd give him another target.
"The witches said I could kill him, that's why they gave me all this power. They told me there'd be consequences but it would be better in the long run."
"I don't want you to die Bonnie!" I shouted.
"How do you even know about this?!"
"I just know."
She didn't want to believe me, I knew she didn't. I needed to find Klaus before she could. If what Kol said was true, Klaus wouldn't allow me to live. Hopefully that'd give the gang some much needed time.
I sighed. "If you won't leave it alone, I'll just have to finish this myself." I dodged her and ran back to the party.
Hundreds of sweaty, dancing teenagers shielded me from Bonnie for the time being. Klaus had to be here somewhere. Why else would he want to compel a girl in order to find out if she'd be attending.
I watched Ric lead Elena and Bonnie out of the dance, fast and steady. Something was wrong. What if they knew where Klaus was and Bonnie was knowingly walking to her death. I made my way toward them, someone caught my wrist. "Drew?"
"I really can't do this right now Jer, please let me go." The last thing I needed was my twin reminding me of what I'd lose.
"Not if you're going to rush into danger." He didn't release my wrist.
"Jeremy if you don't let me go, Bonnie is going to die." I stressed, his grip loosened, and I pulled away from his grasp.
I can't believe that actually worked.
"What do you mean?" He questioned, I didn't answer, just turned and ran where Elena had gone. I sped down the hallway, hoping I'd find them in time. I silently cheered when I heard voices.
"I just had to get away from that dance." I heard Ric state, he was laughing a little, it gave me the creeps. "Sixties." He scoffed. "Not my decade, I mean who's call was that anyway? I much prefer the twenties, the style, the parties, the jazz."
I stopped behind my sister "Alaric, are you on vervain?"
Ric took a few steps closer.
"Now why would you ask me that question Elena?"
"He's been compelled." Elena moved closer to Bonnie.
"Nope, try again." He smirked.
"What's going on?" Bonnie demanded, stepping in front of my sister.
Elena backed up, accidentally bumping into me. She looked at me in horror. "Drew? What are you doing? Get out of here." she whispered frantically. "Go back home!"
Alaric sighed at Bonnie. "Okay I'll give you a hint, I am not Alaric." He smirked
My brow furrowed. It couldn't- "Klaus." Elena and I realized at the same time.
"Surprise." He grinned.
"B-but that's not possible."
"Just relax Elena, you're not on my kill list tonight." He tilted his head "Bonnie on the other hand." He shrugged. "She has to die."
I ran in front of Bonnie. "No! Take me instead." This was a really stupid idea.
Klaus sighed heavily. "Why is everyone in your damn group martyrs."
"Drew get behind me." Bonnie pleaded, but I wouldn't budge.
"I can give you something better than a Bennet witch." Elijah was so going to kill me.
Kol was going to kill me too.
They'd be pissed if I survived this.
Klaus tilted his head. "And what's that?"
"No, Drew. You don't know what you're doing." Elena was tugging at my shirt.
I was about to reply but was stopped by Elijah appearing between me and Niklaus.
"Brother." Klaus greeted. "Been a long time."
"I see you've taken over the history teacher, what exactly did you plan to do with Drew?" He put his hands in his pockets.
"She was just about to tell me of her importance."
Elijah glanced back at me and his expression made me feel guilty. Damn him. "Ms Gilbert, I suggest you take Ms Bennett and make a swift exit, make sure to take Drew with you, wouldn't want her getting lost on the way home."
I crossed my arms. "C'mon. I want some hot chocolate."
