Mirror Kingdom- It can happen

-I told you it would happen.

-Yeah, thanks dad. I got myself beaten up by a girl.

-How do you feel?

-Im fine,- Nathan walked from one side of the hall to another.- why does she hate me?

-You came onto her too fast.

-What? You were the one saying that sooner the better.

-Yes, i was, but at least now you know, that you have to get to her slowly.

-And now she's probably burning up because she touched me. Oh, how i hate this.

At the same time Ruby tried to convince Devina that she will have to apologize, if she don't want to be in trouble, not with her future husband, nor with the father in law.

-Are you feeling ok?

-Yes, im fine.

-Weren't you suppose to be, uhm, burning?

-I was!- Devina jumped,- but... im not...

She took a look at her hands, they looked fine, not burned, not even red.

-We have to tell them!

-No!

-Why?

-If we tell them, they will be the happiest man alive! We cannot tell them, not now, not ever!

-Isn't that weird...

-What about when you hit Nathans father?

-It felt like a normal smack, that's it, no red hand, no burning feeling, no nothing.

-So you can touch him as well. What about Demos father? He married a human, that means that she could touch him without getting burned as well.

A silent knock stopped their talk.

-Who is it?

-It's me, Rose. I brought you some food.

-We are not hungry,- Ruby responded, but her stomach had other plans.

-Master wouldn't want you to starve.

-Ok, fine, come in.

Rose walked in with a tray in her hands. She put it on the table next to one of the windows and mentioned for both ladies to sit at the table with her.

-There is meat and vegetables, fruit and wine, and some juice as well.

The smell made Devina even more hungry than she was before. And when she saw the food she ate.

-I have something to share with you,- Rose whispered.

-Why are you whispering?

-No one knows this, and i want you to keep it a secret.

-What type of secret?- Devina cut a chunk of meat and put it in her mouth.

-I was the maid of the human before you.

-Oh, ok,- Ruby took a sip of wine, not knowing it would be so strong,- i could get drunk with this.

-Alina was her name, and Marc was Demos father.

-So what is the big secret?

-They loved each other.

-A? What are you trying to say?

-They were each others true love.

-What?! How do you know?

-Their wedding, the part where they kiss, they kissed for the first time, and it was true loves kiss.

-How can you tell, it's true loves kiss?- Devina asked.

-Don't you know?- to Ruby's surprise Devina nodded,- it's when you kiss for the first time, getting all the butterflies in your stomach, feeling that the world turns, feeling safe and all that stuff.

-Ok, im getting sick,- Devina let her thought flow out of her mouth,- ew.

-Miss Devina,- Rose smiled,- if you marry Nathan, you will become the future queen.

-I don't want to. Im too young for that stuff.

-Have you ever been kissed?- Ruby asked.

-Ew, no!

-How is that possible, a girl like you, never been kissed?

-I never wanted to kiss anyone, so where is the problem.

-How!?

-Im a Tom boy.

-But you are girly as well.

-You think?

-Look at how Nathan is drooling over you.

-That's it, stop talking about him. I don't want to hear anything about love and other stuff, now, thank you.

Rose was as surprised as Ruby, when Devina told her thoughts about all „love thingy". It appeared, that Devina didn't have time for boyfriends and love for that matter.

Every day after school she had other stuff to do. She helped in the local library, she played basketball in a team, she was bussy.

-You say it as a bad thing.

-Love? Nah, it's not that it's bad, im not looking for it.

-You know you can't escape it.

-Yes, everyone keeps telling me that, but thank you for reminding, no more, please.

-One day it will happen, and you will feel like the happiest person alive.

-How will it happen, if im stuck here?! It's not like i could fall in love with the man that will be my husband? He will be my husband on paper and in other peoples eyes, that's it! Love should be fun! Love should be looking for the right partner, not marrying a stranger!
