Mirror Kingdom "Chapter 31"

-She is the one,- Demos walked slowly, watching his reflection in every mirror of the hall. The Wizard just came from the library where he left Devina to read about the curse.

-Did you see the ring?

-Yes, and i believe now she knows the truth, but...- the Wizard breathed in,- you know, even if you marry her, she won't... i mean, it will be hard for her to be your wife completely.

-Well, i've been waiting for the curse to be broken, since i wasn't even born, i can wait longer.

-When you marry her, she will stay the same age, unless you sleep together and conceive a child.

-I know and I understand.

-Wait, what?- all of the sudden the door burst open and Ruby walked in, heels echoing in the room.

-Ruby, what are you doing here?

-I heard everything Demos, do you really think i will allow you to take Devina? Oh, hell no! She is like the second daughter of mine, and i won't let you do anything to her.

-Ruby, you don't understand...

-I understand perfectly, you are an old creep, who likes to drool on young girls, besides, i was not the one who called you that.

-Things have changed, Ruby.

-Devina loves me as i do love her, and we will get married soon, she said yes.

-Yeah, right, and im an Easter bunny.

The Wizard moved his brows not understanding what Ruby meant by that.

-She did,- Demos smiled seeing that Devina walked in,- why don't you ask her yourself.

-May i have a minute,- Devina spoke softly, and Ruby turned to her.

-Did you agree to marry Demos?- she asked.

-Can we talk later,- Devina asked Ruby,- please, may i have that minute.

-Yes, of course,- the Wizard was gone already and Ruby walked out.

-Devina, my love, what is on your mind?

-Is it...- she swollowed,- is it true? I am the one to...

Devina couldn't get the words out of her mouth.

-You already know the answer to that,- Demos explained,- yes, you are.

-How long have you known that?

-I had my suspicion when we.., when i first kissed you.

-I can't,- was all Devina said, and then she turned around and walked out.

-Devina, wait!

-I can't Demos, i just can't...

She ran upstairs, through coridors, till she reached her safe haven in her bedroom, where she was alone.

Devina locked the door and went straight to bed. She couldn't believe it. She knew that life is never easy, but this?

This had never crossed her mind.

A silent knock on the door made Devina jump out of her thoughts.

-It's me, Ruby, may I come in?

-I have locked the door, i will open them, just wait a second.

Devina stood up and walked to the door, unlocking them, she went back to bed. Ruby walked in, and went to the same spot- to Devinas bed.

-Tell me, is it true?

-Yes,- Devina sighed,- i have to sleep with Demos and conceive a child that will save their race, but there is no way to know that it truly will be a baby girl, and i can't do it.

-Oh, wow, wow, hold on!- Ruby was shocked,- i missed something... uhm.

-Didn't you know?

-No, i was upset, because you said yes to marrying Demos.

-Gotcha,- Devina didn't know if she has to continue,- so, uhm, do you want to know the rest?
