the time for belly's birthday dinner came by quickly. quite a few people occupied the dining room. "this is delicious," cam, belly's date complimented the food. the birthday girl nodded, agreeing. susannah smiled at the compliment, "of course it is."
"so, cam," jeremiah began, "you mind if i call you cam cameron?" the night of the bonfire, when the kids met cam, it slipped and the boy introduced himself as 'cam cameron' and jeremiah just wouldn't let it go since. the boy nodded his head, "mm-hmm. yeah, man. feel free. that's funny."
"cool," the younger fisher boy nodded a smirk on his lips. susannah took a sip of her drink, "i'm glad you're here, cameron. i know your mom, den-"
the group laughed loudly. after they had belly's birthday dinner the kids sat in the circle around the pool, playing truth or dare per jeremiah's request. steven just completed his dare of drinking a mystery drink prepared by the fisher brothers. the two didn't have mercy, putting pickle juice in a glass of oj.
they laughed, watching him gag over and over again. "that's disgusting!" everyone laughed again seeing steven's grimace. "okay, okay," piper clapped her hands, "connie, truth or dare?" he was done for. piper's truths were brutal and dares deadly. "truth."
"coward," jeremiah teased. sadie rolled her eyes, truth wasn't for cowards, it was actually scarier than any dare. "connie, what's something you never told susannah?" the boy thought for a second, upon realization he hesitated, "i used to pee in the garden when i was younger."
piper and steven burst into laughter, "you couldn't just take a few more steps into the bathroom, bro?" sadie grimaced thinking about it. conrad shook his head, "i'd just waste a trip! i don't know man! i don't understand the logic either."
"maybe that's way susannah's flowers always bloomed so much, they were constantly fertilizer," the younger crawford girl deadpanned. everyone laughed, just imagining in their heads susannah thinking how beautiful her flowers are only for conrad to later pee on them.
the fisher boy shook his head in disbelief, it wasn't that funny, "belly, truth or dare?" the girl thought for a second. it was conrad he wouldn't give her something bad, would he? "dare!"
"we're feeling bold tonight," piper clapped her hands, "our big thirteen year old." belly awkwardly smiled while the rest let out a few chuckles. piper pulled her phone out of the pocket of her shorts and handed it to the younger girl, "isabel, i dare you to call a random number and talk to them as long as you can."
belly nodded, maybe a little unsure. they dictated her a number or two each and once she had enough digits the girl pressed the call button. it rang for a few seconds, "hello?" an older man's voice rang through the space. "did you order the pizza sir?"
piper covered her mouth not to let a sound out. "what?" the man asked confused, "i ain't ordered no pizza." the shuffling on the line made everyone share alarmed looks. "now, who the hell is this?"
piper took the phone from belly's hand, "it's pizza hut," piper was, as always, being a despicable fifteen-year-old, "sir i'm standing in front of your house with twenty-two pizzas, could you please come out and collect them." the man cursed something under his breath, "those damn teenagers," and hung up.
piper groaned in disappointment, "that was a bust." she put her phone back into her pocket. "truth or dare, pip?" her sister's voice took her by surprise. "dare, of course."
sadie smirked, "i dare you to kiss steven." a wave of 'ohs' hit them while steven just gagged, shaking his head. piper looked around in utter disbelief, "he just drank pickle juice! no way!" she protested while everyone laughed at the pair's reaction. "c'mon, give stevie a big smooch."
the pair gagged in unison grimaces on their faces once they realize what they did. "okay, then for punishment-" jeremiah's words were cut off, "no! no punishment! i- i just assisted belly in her dare! you cannot give me punishment!" she argued.
sadie wanted to shoot back, but decided against it because her argument was sort of valid, "fine!" piper crossed her arms over her chest, she was ready for revenge, "sadie, truth or dare?" the younger girl's eyes widened, and she, along with everyone else knew what was coming. "dare."
"i dare you to have a swim." sadie furrowed her eyebrows, "it's like midnight, piper!"
"okay, then for punishment-" she mocked the younger fisher. "piper!" she exclaimed. she knew if she didn't do the dare she'd get a punishment much worse. sighing deeply she stood up and made her way to the beach. "she actually doing it?" the rest of the group stood up and followed her.
the moon was full. the sky decorated with different shining stars. it all reflected off of the water. "here, hold this," the girl gave jeremiah her phone and walked closer to the water. she took a step in and immediately hissed, it was really cold.
sadie was still fully dressed, and she wondered was that a good idea. she was wearing a white dress she got for her birthday that year and she didn't want the salt in the water to ruin it. she hoped that her mom could fix that, if not she'll make her sister buy her a new one.
taking another step, she shivered. she wouldn't put it past her to catch a cold right then and there.
"hold this," jeremiah gave sadie's and his phone to steven, then jogged to the water, hearing the conklin boy mumble something in confusion.
"hey," he softly told her, now standing next to her, in the water. "jere, what are you doing?" he was the first one to do his dare, he didn't have to be there with her. he took her hand, inhaling deeply he took another step into the cold water, the girl following behind.
"are you going to nicole's party too?" piper brought her sister out of the memory. the girl hummed, slightly out of it for a moment, "yeah, yeah. if everyone's going so am i." piper looked at her weirdly but nodded her head, nevertheless.
