❛ sharing all your secrets with each other
since you were kids ❜the day of the fourth of july never seemed to come to an end. sadie didn't expect that day to last so long, it was as if it didn't last twenty-four hours but thirty-eight.
after returning from dinner with their dad, piper immediately made her way to her room, slammed the door shut and more than likely began crying.
sadie wanted to do the same. crying when mad was a trait the two sisters shared, though the trait didn't originate from either of their parents.
so instead of violently sobbing in her room sadie was at the beach, sitting on sand, staring at the dark night sky, listening to waves and trying not think.
her mission proves to be a failure when her mind takes her to the night before. she didn't remember that kiss very well because she was intoxicated but in that very moment she remembered everything.
it was like the beach, the sea and the stars were trying to tell her a secret, trying to tell her what happened.
and it was working.
she was once again wondering was that kiss a mistake? did they push it so far to the point of no return? was anything ever going to be the same?
her head swirled with questions while it kept replying the previous nights event. sadie cursed her own brain for placing doubts in her heart.
"hey!" damn him, sadie thought, "what are you doing here so late?" jeremiah questioned. he stood on her left, his hands in the pockets of his shorts, his intense blue gaze on her.
as always, sadie didn't dare look the boy in the eyes, she kept her own gaze ahead, staring at the sea. the girl shrugged, "i just didn't feel like being inside."
the boy nodded his head. sadie had hoped that their conversation had come to an end but unfortunately for her jeremiah didn't think the same because the next thing he did was sit next to her.
"everything okay?" his voice was barely above a whisper. wind picked up a little, suddenly it was colder than before. waves crashed loudly against the shore. and the moon and stars littered the dark night sky.
when sadie didn't answer, he spoke up again, "what happened... at the dinner? piper seems upset." his voice was soft, melodic, full of emotion, full of concern.
for a second sadie didn't think he cared, then she remembered that it was jeremiah in question and there wasn't a person that cared more than jeremiah.
"just some stuff with our dad, it's fine," she reassured. that was a lie, sadie knew that, jeremiah knew that. hell, even the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea knew that it wasn't fine.
"sades, you know you can tell me anything," she still wasn't looking at him, yet his gaze rested on the side of her face. "i don't want to talk about it, jeremiah." her tone was cold, she never spoke to the boy that way. a flash of hurt washed over him, a pang in his heart no doubt.
biting her lip she turned to face him. guilt clouded her eyes, "i'm sorry. i- i didn't mean to snap at you like that." he composed himself, the hurt on his face replaced by a small smile, "it's okay. you don't want to talk about it, i get it... but, maybe there's something else you'd like to talk about?"
"like what?"
without missing a beat, jeremiah whispered, "us."
her gaze fell from his eyes to his lips and once again her mind was plagued by the flashes from the night before. sadie debated on it for a second, does she play dumb or does she act like an adult?
"i don't know what to think of last night," she admitted, choosing the third option, acting like a confused teenager, not much of an act in fact.
a few minutes of deep silence followed.
"i like you, sades," the boy admitted. once those words left his lips there was no going back. his cards were on the table and he was waiting for her to put hers out too, hoping she doesn't have an ace in her sleeve.
he was beginning to regret his confession, thinking that it was too much and he had crossed the line. she didn't feel the same and he just ruined their friendship forever. fuck why did he even listen to conrad and piper?
"i like you too, jere," he felt it, in that moment he felt it. it was like the sun came up in that moment, like he had found a cure for an incurable disease, like he had won the lottery, like all of his problems have been solved with four simple words.
"you do?"
she rapidly nodded her head, no words were able to escape from her lips. as she looked at him and they smiled at each other like idiots, her fight with her dad completely slipped her mind. at that moment, her head and her heart were completely and utterly infiltrated by jeremiah.
every single thing that happened seemed to have lead jeremiah exactly to that moment and that moment alone. he didn't hesitate pulling her into a kiss.
unlike their first kiss this one was so much different. this one was slow and gentle. passionate and real. full of real meaningful emotions.
both of their hearts were pounding loudly. her lips soft yet cold, he could taste her cherry chapstick on them. his lips were warm and gentle, his hand resting on her cheek.
this is how jeremiah wished their first kiss would be.
a conversation with a love confession followed by a meaningful kiss not a sloppy drunken kiss neither of them remembered entirely.
but at the end of the day he got what he wanted. a second kiss. a second kiss where they were both completely sober, and that was all that he could ask for, so he won't complain.
