the news that adam, jeremiah and conrad's father, wasn't going to be able to make it to cousins beach this year spread conrad's mood visibly changed. one would assume the boy would be sad, disappointed and overall passive but his spirits seemed to rise. not only was he in a good mood but he was actually happy for the first time that summer.

john, belly and steven's father, arrived shortly after andrew. he brought his new girlfriend to the party, an action that didn't go uncriticized by andrew especially because the said girlfriend was much younger. grumbling a few words under his breath at the sight he decided that it wasn't his place to meddle, laurel was the one that initiated the divorce, after all, the man was just trying to move on.

the girlfriend seemed nice. the only people to really analyse her were belly and steven, sharing a few whispers after initially meeting her. did they approve? they weren't that sure, it was her time to shine and impress the two kids.

"that's dope," jeremiah commented watching vicki, the girlfriend, mix some fruits and alcohol in the blender to make some margaritas. vick laughed softly at the comment. "how'd you learn to make these?" belly curiously asked, carefully watching her every move as she made the drinks.

"so," she began explaining as she pulled the jar of the blender off of its base, "i actually spent a summer in this desert town in texas near the border called marfa. and there was a bar there that served these, and i told the bartender that i would not leave until he showed me exactly how he made these." she put the liquid in the cups.

the fisher boy chuckled. belly eyed the drinks. "can i try a sip?" vicki stopped in her tracks, narrowing her eyes at the girl suspiciously, "are your parents cool with that?" they weren't, laurel especially. whos parents would be fine with their children participating in underage drinking? bally smiled, lying through her teeth, "yeah, yeah, no, they don't care."

"oh, then, sure." vicki relaxed, returning the blender jar to its base and taking the two full glasses, "i'm gonna take this out to your dad. do you mind taking those out to susannah and your mom?" the kids nodded. "thanks, love."

they watched the woman leave. as soon as she was out of the room belly gripped one of the glasses and tasted the drink. "oh, well, how is it? strong?" jeremiah chuckled. the conklin girl gulped down the sip she took. pointing at the glass, she smiled, "that is amazing."

jeremiah chuckled, "yeah. is it?" taking the glass from belly's hand he tried the drink out himself. "mmm. no wonder you like it. it tastes just like a slurpee." the pair beamed over the drink, ultimately deciding that they were going to make more themselves. belly made her way to the cupboard while jeremiah stayed seated at the island, picking out the fruits at the table.

"what are you guys making?" sadie's voice interrupted them as she, along with conrad made their way into the kitchen. steven and piper were still outside entertaining the debs. belly smiled widely as she made her way back to the island, "pomegranate margaritas, but with a twist."

conrad stopped in his tracks, he and sadie sharing a look, "well, you got to use the good blender." sadie walked over to jeremiah's side of the island as conrad pulled out another, much bigger blender out of another cupboard, and then made his way to belly's side of the island.

jeremiah hesitated. his words now coming out a little stammered now that the girl was next to him, "oh, i-i haven't used that thing since the great kool-aid debacle of 2011." while the tension wasn't that heavy in the air it was still there, present, slowly lingering between them. things were a little awkward and even the other two could feel the shift in the air. nobody knew about the kiss, maybe just piper, they weren't sure. if she knew then she wasn't letting it on.

conrad and belly laughed, sharing a confused glance along the way, "i remember, the counters were sticky for... two summers?" they all laughed, remembering the incident really clearly. "i'm pretty sure they're still a little sticky," sadie joked causing another wave of laughter to erupt.

"dad kept his, uh, briefcase in my room for a year," he sat up a little straighter, attempting to imitate their father, "as a reminder that all mistakes are not reversible." belly paused, looking around the room, now unsure of their plan, "wait, won't he be mad if he finds out?"

"well, he's not gonna find out," conrad smiled, taking a mug of juice from the table, "he's not coming." belly laughed, taking another ingredient from the table and adding to the blender jar, "okay. yeah." the group cheered, everyone, adding an ingredient from the table into the jar.

"oh, she's going for the good stuff," sadie commented laughing as belly took a bottle of alcohol from the table and began adding it with the rest. "we don't need another debacle," jeremiah jokingly warned as conrad edged the girl's hand, adding a lot more alcohol to the drink. "yeah. stop it, stop. no, stop."

"a lot more, a lot more tequila."

"no, no, no, no, no!"

they all laughed. the blender jar now full almost to the brim. conrad slapped the lid on top and immediately clicked the button to start the blending after sadie plugged the device into the plug on the wall behind them.

conrad joked around. his behaviour was completely different to his behaviour from the days before. "no, keep your hands on it. keep your hands on it," jeremiah warned as the group laughed. conrad returned his hand to the lid and seconds later turned off the blender. "man, you know what i miss?" conrad began, "watching laurel put dad in his place. you know, she'd walk in, she'd be like, "adam.""

"adam. you came." laurel's voice echoed through the room.

"happy fourth," mr fisher happily told the group of teens. the tension in the room was now much heavier, this time a different type of tension. and just like that, conrad's smile faltered. his brooding facial expression back as if it never left.
