❛ don't take a hit, don't kiss my lips
and please don't drink more beer ❜taking her god-knows-what beer of the night, sadie made her way out of the loud house the party was taking place. how did she find herself at a random party? god, sadie would like to forget, that's why she came here, yet the flashbacks kept hitting her all through the night. the alcohol clearly wasn't helping.
sadie sat on one of the benches on the beach. she was fidgeting as she waited for dylan to come. she decided to be honest with him, she wasn't interested in him. since her and jeremiah's kiss, she wondered if she was ever even interested in the boy. she was leading him on, and that is why guilt was eating her alive.
the truth was, sadie wasn't sure how she and jeremiah stood. would anything ever happen? is she missing a good chance with dylan because of her long unresolved feelings for jeremiah? what happens when the summer ends? so many questions, and even more 'what ifs'.
sadie was sure of one thing and one thing only, she wasn't ready to regret not giving jeremiah a chance for the rest of her life, and she was ready to regret a lot of things. "hey! i'm sorry i'm late," he was actually right on time, she was the one that was way too early, "had to beg my brother to cover for me at the store."
"oh, it's no problem. i didn't wait for long," she smiled, hugging him back. her statement was false. she's been at the beach for at least thirty minutes, thinking, rethinking and overthinking what to say to the boy that was now standing in front of her. sadie's head was empty, everything she previously came up with just disappearing into thin air.
"the sunsets beautiful. wanna take a walk?" he asked. dylan could see it in her eyes, something was wrong. the girl fidgeted, playing with the bracelet on her left hand, bobbing back and forth on her heel, "uh, no, no. i- i uh," she stammered, "i think it's best if we stay here." she sat back down on the bench.
nodding his head, putting his hands in the pockets of his shorts, dylan sat next to her. "what's up? everything okay?" he turned to her. she hesitated, god, she wasn't ready to look him in the eye, "i just wanna talk, dylan."
well, that was never a good sign, dylan thought to himself. letting out an awkward chuckle, the boy nodded his head, signalling to the girl to continue speaking. sadie didn't speak immediately, still playing with her bracelets she kept her gaze on the sunset in front of her.
"i- i don't think we should be seeing each other anymore," she blurred out. there was no point in beating around the bush. the only thing she owed him was, to be honest, and straightforward, she lead him on enough.
dylan wasn't at all too surprised but it was still a gut punch. he knew that whatever was going on between them wasn't anything serious, just a summer thing. he was invested in it more than her anyways. he nodded his head to her statement, not speaking yet. his gaze averted from the side of her face to the sunset too. what is he supposed to say?
"i'm sorry," she whispered, her eyes glossed over. why the hell was she crying?
"it's because of jeremiah, isn't it?" it was stronger than him, he had to ask. he had to know.
her head snapped to him. her poker face was never good. her eyes gave away everything she was so desperately trying to hide. without a word she nodded her head, there was no point in denying it.
dylan scoffed, shaking his head, "jeremiah's a fuck boy, sadie. a player. he doesn't care about you or your feelings. i saw him making out with some chick just the other day and the day before that he was hardcore flirting with a guy at the country club." vicious words aimed to kill spilt out of his mouth.
dylan was angry, he was speaking out of anger but sadie didn't know that. his voice was calm, his gaze still on the horizon, how was she supposed to know he was overexaggerating?
"fucking hell sadie i've been trying to call for the past half hour!"
"pip?" sadie was back in reality. piper cut off the flashback right before sadie ran away from the beach in tears and found comfort in the first beer she saw.
"how much did you have to drink?" piper approached her sister, tilting her head upwards to check her glossy, bloodshot eyes. aggressively pulling away, sadie stood up from the stairs. "fuck off." she stomped off, stumbling from the alcohol.
"i'm not gonna fuck off," piper followed her sister. taking sadie by her bicep she stopped her in her tracks and made her turn around. "oh, great," sadie spat, "am i about to get a lecture from big sis? is that what this is?"
"sadi-"
"you're not my mother, piper!"
"but i am your sister!"
"well, newsflash, you've been doing a pretty shitty job lately!"
signing deeply piper spoke, "you souldn't drink, sades. not like this, not in these amounts." piper was pleading with her sister. "alcoholism is in our family and you shouldn't drink."
sadie laughed. she laughed so loudly and so bitterly you could taste the sarcasm in the air. "you know how mom died." piper began. maybe this wasn't the best moment to have this particular conversation. no, it definitely wasn't a good time, but it was the only way for piper to get through to her sister.
"yeah, yeah," the younger crawford girl rolled her eyes, "drunk driver hit her, i know. why are we even talking about this? how is this relavent to you doing an awfully crappy job at bei-"
"sadie, mom wasn't hit by a drunk driver... she was the drunk driver."
