He Lives in Daydreams With Me

School was out and the halls were just about empty. Everyone had already gone home, quick to escape what was known as teenage hell.

Honestly, the lack of people made for a nice atmosphere. Chuuya always said that an empty classroom in the afternoon was the most peaceful place on earth and now Dazai was starting to get it. Or he would if it weren't for the fact he was currently searching the entire building for that same redhead 30 minutes after the bell, signalling the end of the day, had rung.

their usual routine consisted of Dazai waiting outside at the gate for Chuuya so they could walk home together or go to the arcade, depending on their mood.

Dazai had waited a whole 25 minutes for Chuuya to get out and yet he had never arrived. Dazai caught the others before they had all left (they all usually stayed late for clubs and such) and enlisted their help in finding the short-stack, lest he get himself into trouble.

Now they were all spread about the school hoping to spot familiar red hair and Dazai was growing more annoyed(worried) by the minute.

How dare that stupid shorty inconvenience him so!

The click of his footsteps could be heard echoing through the halls as he made his way to Chuuya's final class. Opening the door revealed an almost empty classroom, with a figure laying at one of the desks by the windows. His best friend always insisted on having the desk by the second window claiming it gave the perfect view of his favourite tree, whatever that meant.

Now, he lays at that same desk facing away from him, seemingly unbothered by the fact he almost have Dazai a heart-attack.

"Chibi, do you have any idea how long I've been looking for you. This is more walking than I intended to do today." He made his way over to the desk but before he could complain some more he noticed the tell-tale signs of a sleeping chibi.

One thing Dazai has learned about Chuuya over the many years he's known him, is that Chuuya eats a lot and sleeps even more. That, and he's the heaviest sleeper you could ever meet, you could come into his room kicking and screaming and he wouldn't so much a twitch. He regrets letting Chuuya pick a second movie last night during their weekly movie night. By the end of it the chibi had been fighting to keep himself awake. He was probably tired the entire school day.

His eyes soften as he watches the steady rise and fall of his breathing and the way he rests his head on his arms as a pillow.

Without making a sound, he pulls the chair from the desk in front of Chuuya's and sits down on it backwards so that he's facing his sleeping companion, resting his own arms on the back of the desk and supporting his chin in his palm, The time and empty school completely forgotten.

Now, he can see the majority of Chuuya's face from where it rests, facing the window. Chuuya is always most angelic when he's sleeping, not that he's not gorgeous all the time. There was just a quiet beauty in the way his lashes flutter against his cheeks, still covered in freckles from last summer. It's hard for Dazai not to kiss each and everyone of them.

Bathed in the golden light of the late afternoon sun his hair glows like fire from where it frames his face and curls around his jaw. It looks so unbearably soft and it takes everything in Dazai not to drag his long fingers through those blazing locks.

His rosy lips are slightly parted and a thin trail of drool drags down his face. Dazai has to keep himself from wiping it away.

Dazai wishes he could do a lot of things, if only Chuuya would let him. If only Dazai could build the courage to finally confess his feelings to the red-head. He really does want to, but whenever he thinks about it the insecurity builds and he would never want to ruin the relationship they already have. The relationship they've cultivated over the course of their entire childhood.

He still remembers when Chuuya's family had moved in next to him and his family all those years ago. Back then Dazai didn't even know what loves was, just that the boy next door was really pretty and he wanted to be friends with him.

They had been inseparable throughout all these years and Dazai intended to keep it that way. And if that meant keeping his feelings secret right up until graduation, then so be it. He'd do anything if it meant Chuuya was happy.

Shaking himself from his nostalgia and musings, he focused again on the sleeping boy in front of him. Honestly, he hasn't seen Chuuya sleep so peacefully in a long time. Usually, he was kicking, snoring, and shoving Dazai off the bed. Not to mention the way he always steals all the blankets whenever they have a sleep over.

He's fine with that though because he always uses Chuuya as his personal heater anyways. Of course, there were some nights where the chibi would stay nuzzled up against Dazai's chest rather than stretched out like an overgrown cat. Those nights were his favourite because they meant he could hold the smaller boy in his arms and pretend Chuuya wasn't just his friend.

He must be having a really nice dream. It's probably best if Dazai lets him sleep. He could spare a few more minutes.

He sighed, rather dreamily and smiled.

"You don't know what you do to me. Rest well, love." He whispered to the sleeping boy and the empty classroom covered in the soft light of the 4 o'clock sun.

...

Unbeknownst to both the dreaming redhead and the pining brunette, outside the classroom their friend watched the whole seen unfold. Yosano snapping an absurd amount of photos for blackmail, Ranpo sharing his randomly acquired popcorn with Poe's raccoon, Akutagawa emptying the wallet of a poor Atsushi while stifling a cough and gruffly muttering an 'I told you so'.

Kenji and Kyouka were trying to stop Kunikida from barging in and scolding the two boys for staying in the class after school hours, Gin and Higuchi were trying to comfort a very upset Tachihara,

and Kouyou was talking to their teacher Hirotsu, trying to get him to let the two boys stay a while longer.
