Mythological creatures:

Leprechauns – A type of fairy in Irish mythology. They are usually depicted as little bearded men, wearing a coat and hat, who partake in mischief. They are solitary creatures who spend their time making and mending shoes and have a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Dullahan – A type of fairy in Irish mythology. The Dullahan is depicted as a headless rider, usually on a black horse, who carries their own head in his middle arm. Usually, the Dullahan is male, but there are some female versions.

Banshee – A female spirit in Irish mythology who heralds the death of a family member, usually by wailing, shrieking, or keening.

Dark elf – a type of elf in Norse mythology.

Blud – One of the Slavic fairies in Slavic mythology. Blud is an evil-deity that causes disorientation and leads a person aimlessly around. The term also refers to illicit fornication, the desire for which Slavic clerics claimed to come from the Devil.

Vodianoy – The Russian spelling for the male water spirit of Slavic origin. He is viewed to be particularly malevolent, existing almost exclusively to drown swimmers who have angered him by their boldness.

Chuuya went into his very first heat one year into the Dark Age.

The war between species has already spread across the continent. It was as if all of them were waiting for a signal to begin the massacre. Endless battles took place day and night.

It was in such environment that Chuuya experienced his very first mating season after reaching eighteen. His body was burning up as the desire to mate overwhelmed him. Having never gone through something like this before, Chuuya had no idea what was going on. As the vessel of Arahabaki, no one from his village would bother giving him any talk about what coming to age meant for werebeasts.

It was Dazai who figured out what was wrong.

As a vampire, he was no stranger to werebeast's mating season. After all, it was the only time when werebeasts were vulnerable. For vampires, it was the perfect opportunity to attack.

Depending on what species they were, werebeasts have different mating seasons.

The females will go into heat while the males go into rut.

In a rut, the male will lose all sanity and become an animal with only the urge to breed a female. As for females, their body temperature will rise, making them feverish and docile for the males to mate with them.

Chuuya's mating season was apparently in mid-April.

And what's more, Chuuya didn't enter a rut. Instead, he entered heat.

The very first week of his heat, Chuuya experienced it alone in a dark, cold cave.

Neither of them knew why the weretiger had entered heat and not a rut. Dazai constantly joked about how it must have been his height that made even his body mistaken itself for a woman. Those conversations usually ended with Chuuya sending the insensitive bastard flying into the sky.

The second time the weretiger had his heat, they were escaping Ireland.

A territorial war occurred between the humans, Leprechauns, and Dullahan. To be precise, the territorial battle started with humans and Dullahan, but their battle ended up blasting the Leprechauns from their underground hideout.
