Wide eyes flicked back and forth between the two girls and the choreographer in front of him. One hand had a tight grip around a fascinator.
"You must be shitting me. You can't be serious."
His nose scrunched up in displeasure as he twisted the tiny red hat between his hands, still not believing what he had just heard.
Yosano, sitting on a box of props, tried to hide her snickering behind a hand while Akutagawa rolled his eyes at his complaint.
"It's not as if you get a say in this, Chuuya. I've decided," Akutagawa said as he crossed his arms in front of his chest, already annoyed.
Chuuya's posture slumped.
"But we usually do. Why not this time?" He gesticulated in a frustrated manner; the ribbons on the hat bounced along with the movements.
Condescending smirk playing on her lips as she pretended to examine her nails, all glittery and a little too long for Chuuya's liking, Kouyou linked into the conversation.
"We did. You were the one who didn't get a say."
"That's not fair!" Chuuya exclaimed, "You two got to pick the last three songs. It should have been my turn last time; shouldn't you show a little more gratitude?"
They always took turns when it came to the choice of songs, but last week Yosano had been desperate to dance to 'Dangerous Woman' and who would Chuuya be do decline her a simple wish. Okay, truthfully, he still owed her a favor for not ratting him out to Kunikida after that one night. Additionally, he hadn't been exactly opposed to her idea, so he just had gone along with it but for fairness' sake he should at least have been asked what he wanted for this week.
Yosano got up from her seat and came up to Chuuya from behind, hugging him over the shoulders and despite having expected it, having seen her walking over in the massive mirror covering the entire wall, he tensed.
"But Chuuya," she whined into his ear, "It's almost Christmas! Don't be a Grinch. All groups perform to something christmassy."
Relaxing a little into the touch, he still shook his head. "One reason less to do that as well. If we did something entirely different, it would be much more of a surprise. And don't we already have that collective festive dance at the end?"
By now, he was pouting and Yosano only sighed. "I get what you mean, but can't we have some fun for once?"
He cocked an eyebrow as he craned his neck to look at the woman, "Are you saying, you usually don't? Cause I believe you had a blast while swinging around the pole to Ariana Grande last week."
The image of the stunt she pulled on that pole was still burned into his mind and he doubted he would forget the picture any time soon.
She rested her forehead on his left shoulder, her hair tickling his neck, "You know what I mean."
"I still don't get why we have to do the 'Mean Girls Jingle Bells' Dance." His gaze wandered back to the fascinator in his hand, decorated with a candy cane. In his eyes it was hideous.
"It's gonna be fun. People know that performance, recognizing things brings them joy." Kouyou had leaned against one of the poles, her legs crossed in front of her. "Besides, we will perform to another song after that," she reasoned.
That caught Chuuya's interest and spark of enthusiasm lit up in his eyes, "Which one?"
"See, that one you can choose," Akutagawa said, already exhausted from the discussion.
Listening attentively now, Chuuya's eyebrows shot up. He hadn't expected that, but of course Akutagawa wasn't finished yet.
"Under one condition," he continued, raising a finger to underline his statement.
