There's a vindictive satisfaction in watching the Port Mafia crash into ruin, Dazai thought. Even years after the late boss's murder, the skirmishes along the border of the Yokohama's port were a lasting reminder of Mori's sudden and rather unnecessary ascension to the throne.
There came a time, though, when the danger came to its peak— it was this time that Mori decided to play his trump card.
"You know what you two must do, yes, Dazai-kun, Chuuya-kun?" Mori asked, eyes glinting with mischief. Dazai stared out the window of Mori's office, tracing the Yokohama skyline with his single eye.
"Ahh, but Mori-san, don't you know that forced bondings are notoriously known to be painful for both parties?" He brought his gaze back to Mori, dark brown on ruby red. "It's not uncommon for people to die from seizures, heart attacks, stuff of the sort, all because of shock. I'm sure you'd know, obviously, being a doctor and all."
Chuuya didn't add anything to the conversation, but his distaste was clear in the way he clicked his tongue in irritation. Dazai knew that he would never do anything to outright deny something the Boss ordered.
The corner of Mori's lip turned up into a small smile. The glint in his eyes hardened, and he rested a palm under his chin.
"I'm sure you two can find a way. Besides, there are ways to make it less painful."
Dazai's lips turned downward in a frown. "Are you suggesting we mate? That doesn't seem very professional, Mori-san."
Mori sighed, eyes slipping shut. "The decision is up to you. And Chuuya-kun, of course. Aside from that, there are various... medicines that I can provide for you both."
Dazai wrinkled his nose. Medicine from Mori when it's unnecessary? Over his dead body.
This time, it was Chuuya's turn to furrow his eyebrows. "Boss... forgive me for asking, but what happens in the case that this goes wrong?"
Dazai almost smiled. 'If something goes wrong.' It's a moderate term to describe what could happen in even the best case scenario. Mori gave Chuuya a smile, a sharp one that brought a vague flicker of panic even to Dazai's chest.
"Then, take this as a test. If you two fail to survive, then it'll be clear that you're not suited for this life."
"I don't want to do this as much as you don't. Just making that clear before you start whining in my ear," Chuuya hissed, turning to expose his neck, choker thrown across the room.
Dazai had a witty remark on the tip of his tongue, ready to tease Chuuya about something, anything, but his mouth dried upon seeing Chuuya so bare for him, even if it was only his neck.
He won't deny it; Chuuya's unfairly attractive. Ever since his presentation shortly after he joined the Port Mafia, the attraction Dazai felt for him grew exponentially. Though, he reminded himself over and over, it was just his instinct. He's an alpha, it's only natural that he's affected by an omega offering himself to him, despite the omega being Chuuya.
That was what Dazai told himself, anyways, as he leaned forwards and bared his fangs around Chuuya's neck.
If Chuuya noticed his brief moment of hesitation, he didn't mention it.
If Dazai felt something wet fall from Chuuya's lashes as Dazai received his own bite, he pretended he didn't.
(The stinging pain that followed was something so, so foreign to Dazai, that he almost let his mask slip into one of pained shock.
