This is a bit surprising now.
I had the duty of mummifying our god, cleaning his body, draining him of blood and fixing him up so he can be buried nicely. Which is a shit ton of work, but definitely worth the trouble.
And since the others aren't that keen on having the smell of blood on them, I was alone in the basement, clearing him out.
Draining him was a shit ton of work. I had to make multiple drain holes into his arteries so I could drain the blood, and even then it was difficult. Closing those holes up however was easier than I expected.
Red came downstairs to me every once in a while to check how everything was going, to hand me new gloves or a clean towel to wipe the blood off of my hands. When the chemical part came where I had to refill his veins with the chemicals, Red came and brought me some soap to clean my hands afterwards. Or he held the tubes for me. Overall, it was a shit ton of work we had to do, only to PRESERVE his corpse.
Then came the difficult part of dressing him and putting some make up on so he doesn't look as pale as he is, and to hide the scars this dilemma left. I also had to reconstruct parts of his arms with wax so the cuts are hidden.
Red had to help me a lot with the remaining steps, mainly when it came to dressing him. He held Notch close while I put some clothes on the old guy, then we moved him to a second, clean table. There I started with the make up. I put on a foundation before adding a concealer to give him a bit of color. Afterwards I followed it up with a faint blush so he looks more alive, added highlights and added very faint lip stick. Reddie was watching at this point, impressed. "Why do you know so much about how this works?", he asked quietly to not disturb me. I used a spray to make sure the make up won't disappear before sitting up. "I learned it a long time ago. At first I wanted to become a make up artist, but Mom didn't allow me, mocked me for it. So I dropped that dream.", I explained before cleaning up. Red helped me as much as he could. "Well, what's your dream now?", he asked. I thought a bit. "Maybe a mortician?", I suggested, hopping down from the table to close the case for the make up.
"A mortician? I don't think that's a good idea, if I'm being fully honest. Your sanity isn't exactly... High anymore, Hero. And you'll be constantly surrounded by dead bodies. Are you sure you don't want to do something else?"
I turned to him, thinking. "Maybe an assassin?", I offered instead. Red sighed and shook his head. "No, Hero. Something that hasn't got to do with killing. Or death. Or unaliving people in general."
I sighed deeply. "What can I even do?", I asked, frowning. Red started to think.
"What are your abilities?"
I paused a bit. "I can kill?", I carefully mentioned. He shook his head again. "No, Hero!"
"What the hell do you want me to say then?!"
"Can you, I don't know... Cook?", he asked, unnerved. I nodded. "You bake a lot, don't you?", he continued.
Another nod.
"Then why don't you just become a baker?", he suggested.
I hesitated before staring at the floor, thoughtful. A baker...? I mean, I do love baking, but enough to become a baker...?
I sighed a bit and started cleaning the table up, wiping the blood and chemicals off. "I don't know, Red. I'm not sure if that is a good idea, I doubt anyone would take a serial killer as employee.", I explained. He shrugged. "Then open up a bakery yourself!"
"And how are we supposed to fund this?"
"Easy. You take the old, empty shop in TWOR and start there. Jay owns it, he built it mainly to try it out.", he chuckled, cleaning up. I frowned. "He has a shop?", I poked around. Reddie nodded. "Yeah, I think he wanted to make it a sweets shop or something. When the prophecy however appeared, he dropped that idea and turned to concentrating fully on me, Jura and the problem at hand. I don't think he'll mind.", he added. I nodded slowly before sighing. "First tho we need to fix his problem with... Uh, you know."
Red agreed to that before leaving for a moment to get pretty much a spine board so we can bring him upstairs to the coffin prepared for him.
I eyed Notch a bit, sighing softly. So long, old man. You gave us so much without even knowing that you did that.
He was still pretty young, but I just called him old guy because of the amount of experience he has. There was so much he couldn't teach us, so much that we wanted to know, but his time was cut short. Way too short.
I readjusted his collar before sighing softly, noticing the calm look we managed to put onto his face. The tears were gone, his eyes were still open, I still had to close them, but in the coffin.
Those brown-golden eyes... They once were filled with a never ending supply of love and wisdom. Now they're empty, grey and dull. A layer has already settled on them, showing that he was really dead now.
I got the small eye caps and held them close, sighing. We somehow managed to prevent his eyes from sinking in, so that makes this job easier.
Red came back with Mitchell and the spine board. Since the stairs made the task of bringing Notch upstairs very difficult, we asked Mitchell to carry him on the board between his wings. He luckily agreed, so we put Notch onto the board and carefully placed him on Mitchells back, who carefully carried him upstairs. Red and me followed, noticing a bunch of the others standing at the coffin. Seemingly they all wanted to watch as we put him in, even Jay...
I didn't mind all that much. Mitch carefully went into the room and lied down on his belly so we could lift the board off. Absentia sat behind the wooden box, holding it open with the rope attached to the lid.
We brought the board over to the coffin and lowered him in before removing the board. I put the eye caps on and carefully closed his eyes, sighing softly.
Jay watched as well standing between Pietro and Jubilea. He whimpered a bit and held onto Pietro, hiding in his shoulder. He was like an entire head taller, so that wasn't much of a problem.
I stepped back and sent a small prayer up to the heavens.
Godspeed, Notch. You better not fail arriving up there.
