I let out a weak groan before trying to sit up. My body hurt in every way imaginable, I could barely even find a spot that wasn't in constant agony.
The bed I was lying on was surprisingly soft, reminding me a lot of home.
Home...
Home...!!!
How are the others?! Are the kids safe?! Where did Zeph and Nightmare go?! Are they safe?!
My mind started racing, making me notice the heavy headache I had quite quickly. I tried to calm my thoughts down, groaning in pain.
Oww...
A hand was place on my head. It was a nice and warm one, so I subconsciously snuggled up to it. A quiet giggle followed before the hand ran over my head, slowly taking the pain away. I started feeling better, letting out a relieved, yet tired sigh.
This was nice...
I opened an eye and was greeted with a gently lit room. There was a lantern next to me, dimmed so I wouldn't get more of a headache. Green eyes rested on my white ones, calm and collected.
I stared back for a moment and was about to say something to the incubus at my side before I fell silent rather quickly.
Jubilea glanced away, a tad uncomfortable.
There's something that most people don't know. Instead of wisdom teeth, incubi and succubi have 4 fangs, curved to the inside. Which was something that happened over the years as it seemed.
The problem is, if an incubus would bite on, say a stick, and it would get shoved to the back and past this set of fangs, there's no way to get those out. That method was once used to push a metal ring to the back of their mouths, a chain attached to it. Incubi and succubi don't start retching at all. A curse and a blessing at once.
Well... Seemingly Jub got into the hands of what seemed to be bandits. He didn't close his mouth fully, so I saw quite some blood on his tongue. A chain was tied around his neck, connected to a ring of the sort I just told you about.
I frowned a bit before sitting up. "Where are we and who did that?", I asked him. He looked back at me before taking a deep breath and taking out a notebook, writing some stuff down. I watched and eventually read what he wrote when he was done.
"I'm sorry. We're in the hands of slavers. They plan on selling us both for a high price. I should've protected us when we arrived in the Hall of the Dead, that's my whole job. I failed that tho, so I tried struggling. One of them then tried to... Well, it's quite obvious what happened."
I nodded slowly. "Should we try removing that ring?", I asked him softly. He seemed to hesitate before writing again. "How? It's hard to do that without breaking off my fangs."
"But there should be a way, right?"
"I dunno."
I sighed and scooted him closer to me. He didn't fight back, seeming like a small child in my hands. I snorted at that thought and got to work.

It took a long time until I finally bent that ring to the point where I could slip it out from behind his fangs. Jub desperately tried not to cringe, this didn't feel all that nice.
I pulled the ring out and eyed it a bit. Now both the item and my hand were covered in blood and saliva.
I sighed deeply and threw the ring away, wiping my hand on the, already dirty, bedsheets. Jub needed some time to get used to the feeling of freedom, moving his jaw a bit. "Ow, that kinda hurt. Who would've known I'd get into this sort of situation?", he mumbled, more surprised than upset. I chuckled, shrugging. "Who would've known I'd get murdered by a dragon?", I added.
"Who would've known I'd get crushed by my own boyfriends' castle?"
"You get a point there.", I admitted. "I would've expected a more spectacular death from Greed, after all." Jubilea let out a rather cute giggle. "Oh, well, guess I was greedy for that ceiling.", he joked.
We giggled for a while before stopping when there was a noise at the door. Jub immediately growled and pushed me a bit behind him, tail waving. A slaver came in to get us out, but before anything happened, Jub grabbed the guy by the jacket and pulled him into the room we're in, covering his mouth before stabbing him in the head with his tail, tip exiting on the other side. I kinda just stared, shocked.
Jub pulled his tail out and hid the guy under the bed, showing me to follow. I nodded and did just that, quickly grabbing the dagger this man dropped as a sort of weapon to defend myself.
We snuck out the room and started walking around the empty halls to find our exit.
That's when I started asking.
"Jub, what did you mean with it's you're whole job to protect me?", I asked quietly. I looked over his shoulder at me before looking back on the track. He stayed silent for a while, making me wonder if I shouldn't have asked that.
"I'm a realm. A realm that's dead. And dead realms are supposed to prevent humans from dying, or at least those close to them.", he eventually replied quietly. "I already failed once."
I nodded slowly before taking a deep breath. "Is that so bad tho?", I asked. He froze and turned to me, shocked. "Bitch if I fail to get you out of this mess, you do realize you're stuck here forever, with my annoying ass by your side, unable to ever see your small Centi again? He'll worry himself to death, quite literally!"
I fell silent as I noticed that, knowing he's right.
I silently whimpered a bit at that before nodding slowly, understanding. He patted my shoulder before continuing to sneak around this place, looking for an exit or any guards.
I only could follow, nervous.
Please tell me Centi is fine in the Aether...
