I never managed to understand why

Even after the pain I gave you

You're reluctant to let me die

Dazai's POV

No sooner has she finished speaking those words, she approaches my figure and, as lightning strikes, she uses her martial skills on the male who had hit me before. In a blink of an eye, he is propelled backwards, colliding against a wall and instantly blacking out. As always, her strength is on a different level from mine.

"You've just created hundreds of enemies for you, too." I tell her as she cuts the ropes on my wrists and helps me incorporate, an ocean of looks of disapproval staring at us intensely. "Thanks, Kera."

"Dazai, you'd better have a good explanation for this." She simply scoffs as she looks at the now pissed crowd. Somebody from it yells the word 'traitor' and, soon enough, most people are shouting and screaming like animals. Ability users start being surrounded by devilish aura's, aiming at the female. "But for now, run away, I'll restrain them for you."

"But..." Before I can complain, I feel a shot of pain over my body, a splitting headache making forcing me to kneel as a nasty cough comes out of my mouth. Seeing me defenseless, a teenager comes from behind me with knife in hand and, jumping at me, he intends to stab me with the blade. Despite trying to dodge, I don't have time to do so, meaning he'll get me. However, Kera is fast enough, and, without giving me time to react, I see how she places herself in front of me and the knife gets nailed in her arm, from which blood starts to drip, little by little. However, she remains serene as always, and uses the opportunity to grab the teenager's forearm, hit him in the neck and make him lose consciousness.

"Tsk. This is why you shouldn't have given me your coat. You can't even fend for yourself now." She scolds me as she pulls out the dagger and tosses it to the floor, her blood creating an irregular pattern around it. She hisses, and seems to be going to great lengths to hide her pain, and prepares herself in a battle position before starting to use her bare fists to fight some of the men and women there. "Now escape with your friends before this gets worse. I'm sure they're still around."

"Why... Why would you protect me?" I ask her in awe, watching how the crimson liquid coming from her wound keeps staining the floor. However, she prepares herself and, activating her ability, she faces me and gives me what I perceive as a sad smile.

"Because I want you to live a good life, Dazai. As simple as that." With that, she starts walking towards the ferocious crowd and, ripping the dress to move with more freedom, the blue shiny aura emanating from her body becomes even more powerful and threatening. And, no sooner has she started running towards the enemies than I see how some of them are rapidly knocked out, as though a wave of energy had knocked them down.

At some point, it is even hard to follow her movements, but I can't really tell whether it's because she's becoming faster and faster or a fever is taking its toll on my body. All I can do is sit in a corner of a room, observing the scene, and considering if I should take her advice and flee the place. Little do I notice that my legs have already started moving towards the exit, unable to disobey her soft and worried tone. So, leaning on a wall, I find myself closer and closer to my escape route.

I can make it.

I can save myself just like she wants.

But, what about her?

I acknowledge her strength, but will she be able to handle all the guests? In the past she didn't know when to stop, and every single time she went on missions with me, she ended up overdoing it.

What if she gets even more hurt? Or killed?

These thoughts don't dare leave my mind alone and, on the spur of the moment, I begin walking towards where she is, thinking that if I use my ability on the guests, it will be easier for her to stop them.
