We don't want to live forever
Just enough to realize
That we are in this together
Even when we see our demise
Dazai's POV
The doctors working in the Port Mafia's medical wing said it was a miracle she survived. Her ribs had been broken for some time, and they had caused internal bleeding for at least a week. And, aside from the broken arm and the five times she had been shot throughout her stay in that basement, she was covered in cuts, bruises, scratches and electrical burns that had got infected. Everyone had expected the high fevers she suffered during the first hours of treatment, and then again, everything was against her surviving, including Mori-san.
When he received the message that we had indeed brought a survivor with us -when he specifically ordered us not to- he couldn't keep a cool head. He was ready to give us, or at least me, the punishment for disobeying his orders.
"Dazai-kun, this is not what we had agreed." He told me with empty eyes while Chuuya was away at the torture chambers because of Kouyo's commands. "I don't want you to do what you please. Remember you serve me. And that there are consequences. But first things first." With that, he opened the doors of the medical wing, searching for Kera, and finally spotting how she had finished being treated and was lying in a stretcher, connected to a heart monitor, still unconscious. The moment he was only two feet away from her, he pulled out a scalpel from his sleeve, lifting it in the air.
I knew what he was about to do.
'Fix' my mistake.
I bit my lip in anger and frustration. Why? Just why did everything have to end up with everyone dead? Why didn't he stop until there was nothing left to save? Even with Mafia members, he didn't hesitate to slit their throats open if it was necessary, but what could I do? At that moment, I felt so hopeless and tied up, I didn't have the courage to voice my opinion. Not that he'd care, anyway.
Just then, he moved his arm, ready to slaughter her but, to our surprise, Kera shot her eyes open, pushing herself away from boss and, before he could kill her, she placed herself behind the heart monitor, leaning on it since she had no strength at all. Her green orbs revealing a will to fight even in her condition.
"You're quite a tough girl, moving with all those fresh injuries. And you seem to have sharp senses, too." Mori said, still not lowering his scalpel as she looked at him, then at me. However, I didn't manage to say a single word. In my mind, I only asked myself how was she able to notice she was about to be killed. And how relieved I felt when she pushed herself away from the blade.
"You're the boss of the Port Mafia, aren't you?" she simply asked, not lowering her guard, and at the same time scanning the place. "I suppose you just realized I was here, but you don't really want me alive, do you?"
"I'm afraid not." He vaguely replied, moving his scalpel and shrugging his shoulders. "As I see you right now, you're nothing but a possible source of problems. I'd like to keep possible threats at bay. Specially if they are somewhat related to Endless Void."
"So, you won't even listen to what I have to say?" she said, rolling her eyes and unplugging a couple wires on the sly.
"Why would I?"
"Because corpses aren't useful. They're hard to carry and dispose of." The idea made boss smirk evilly, as though there was something funny about that.
"Two minutes. I will not waste any more time." He scoffed, sitting on a chair next to the stretcher, resting his chin on the palm of his hand as he gave her two cold orbs.
