Chapter 9

The whole incident was followed by the funeral of Theodred, who was Theoden's son. When Saruman took possession of the king, nothing mattered to him but power. It was then, that his son was killed, and poor Theoden couldn't even say goodbye to him.

A few hours after this incident, two children came to Rohan - a boy and a girl, who, as it later turned out, were siblings. They said that their village had been invaded, they had no chance, so their mother sent them for help. Éowyn gave them new clothes and something warm to eat.

Gandalf tried to persuade Theoden to reason, he wanted him to face Saruman, to pull him away from women and children, but king was too stubborn. We also told him that Eomer and his troops would be ready to return and fight for the king. But Theoden said that they were too far away and that they wouldn'tt help us.

"I know what it's you want of me... " King turned to Wizard. "But I'll not bring further death to my people. I'll not risk open war. "

"Open war is upon you. " Aragorn interjected. "Whether you would risk it or not. "

"When last time I looked Theoden, not Aragorn, was a king of Rohan. " Theoden growled at Aragorn.

"But it's Aragorn whos right, not you. " I interjected which caught attention of king. "Since you're a king, I think you should take care of your people and... "

"I'll give about my subjects! " He interrupted me. "Dwarf will not tell me what to do. "

"I'm not just a dwarf! "

"Oh, yes..." King sighed. "Thorin Oakenshield's daughter..." He said with contempt.

"What's you problem?! " I growled and got up to my feet. Aragorn wanted to stop me, but I broke away from him. "I know more than you think. " I approached him. "I'm sure if Thorin had been here, he would've supported me... And he would certainly do much better in the role of king Rohan. "

"Be careful with words. " Theoden said severely.

"Or what? " I entered into his words. "I'll not let you insult my loved ones! Do you think I don't know what pain is? That I don't know what it's like to lose a loved one...? Well, I know! You lost your son and I lost my parents! Thanks to Thorin Oakenshield, I regained my family again, I felt again what it was like to be loved. I owe him and our Company everything... " I looked at Kili, who now sent me a slight smile. "Don't you dare insult my father anymore, for you'll bitterly regret it. " I turned back to king.

"As you can see. " I shrugged. "You can kill me if you want... I don't car. But then you'll only show that I was right. That you're not fit to be king of Rohan. That you don't care about your people and that you're a coward... " I said and sighed and continued. "You can't give up..." I softened my voice a bit. "You've to face our enemies. "

"I don't know if you're brave or stupid..." King replied thoughtfully. "I should sentence you to prison for such a thing, or rather to death. " At these words Kili took a step forward and grabbed the sword, but he hadn't taken it out yet. "But I won't. " Man said. "Forgive me for offending you. For me, as well as for you, the most important are my loved ones and my people. I'll do everything to protect them. "

"Then what's the king's decision? " Gandalf interjected.

It was to be expected that even in spite of all my chatter, king still put on his own and ordered to leave the city. We were to go to Helm's Deep.

Gandalf was as angry as I was. It's true that Helm's Deep has already saved them once, but you cannot run away all the time. For god's sake. Theoden wants the best for his people, but there's no escape from there, king leads them straight into the trap.

Our Wizard had left Rohan in search of Eomer, we were to wait for him on the fifth day at dawn and look east at dawn. I hoped that Gandalf would succeed, otherwise we had little chance of winning the fight that was about to await us.

I was saddling a horse when Kili suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

I stood there for a moment and stroked the horse, but I didn't say a word to Kili. Dwarf just sighed, turned around and wanted to go, but at that moment I couldn't stand it and started crying.

When dwarf came back, I cuddled to him again.

"I can't do it... " I sobbed. "I-I don't know what's going on with me... I can't do anything. I'm not as strong as I used to be... I tried to be strong, but... You know... I guess, you did wrong to marry me. "

"What are you saying...? " Kili interrupted me. His voice was as soft as ever when he spoke to me. "Listen..." He took my face in his hands and told me to look at him. You've always supported me and now it's my turn, honey. I won't let you give up, you hear me? You are strong, brave, wise, clever and beautiful. " I smiled slightly at the last word and continued to listen to his words. "You can always find a way out of any situation... You can convince everyone, without exception. "

"I didn't convince Theoden. " I interjected.

"Your words will reach him, but I hope that then it'll not be too late. " Replied. "And don't you dare say that I did wrong with our wedding anymore. It was one of the best moments I've ever experienced. I love you, dummy. " He gave me a slight kiss on my lips. "You understand? " Smiled slightly.

I nodded as a sign that I understood.

"I love you too. " I said honestly.

"Prove it. " Kili smiled bullied, to which I just laughed and joined our lips together.

I put my hands around his neck and he embraced me at waist and probably nothing would've interrupted us, if it hadn't been for the fact of the war. So we had to go with Theoden and the others to Helm's Deep.
