Chapter 13

* KILI *

I looked at my wife. She looked so innocent. She didn't deserve such a fate. If I could then cover her somehow... Anything to do...

It wasn't Thorin's fault, it was mine. Malia's in my care and I have failed. She's my wife, so I should protect her, not watch her suffer.

"She'll be fine. " I heard a voice behind me and I turned towards him and saw Legolas.

"Do you have Athelas*?" I asked right away.

"Yes. " He replied and immediately started to work.

He grabbed the herb into pieces, and then made a potion by adding water to it, and after a while he began to speak some elven spells.

He made two portions. One was denser, and he pressed it to the wound, and the other was thinner, which he give it to her mouth.

"What now? " I asked.

"Now we have to wait. " Replied.

I don't know how long we waited but I know my fatigue finally won and I fell asleep leaning my head against the edge of the bed. A voice woke me up and after a while I felt a hand on my shoulder. I opened my eyes a little and I couldn't believe it.

"Lia! " I called and girl laughed a little.

"I'm glad to see you too, honey. " She said with a slightly hoarse voice. She smiled warmly at me.

Seeing her smiling, I immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

"You scared me, you know? "

"I'm sorry..." She said innocently. I couldn't be angry with her.

"Never scare me like that again. " I kissed her hand.

"Never. " Woman whispered. "And where are the others? "

I turned and pointed to the people sitting against the wall. Legolas and Gimli were there. Elf and dwarf fell asleep leaning against each other. Malia laughed at the sight, and I called them to come over.

"Sunshine! " Gimli called cheerfully, who pretended the before situation didn't exist. "We missed you. "

"Welcome back. " Legolas said with a smile.

Lia didn't know how she was still alive so we told her everything.

Fortunately, with each minute after a minute, she looked better and better, which meant that Legolas' medicine was working. After Lia fell asleep, I approached elf.

"Thank you. " I said. "If it weren't for you, then... "

"You don't have to thank me. " He replied. "She's a friend. " Smiled. "We're friends too, aren't we? " He asked which of course I confirmed. "You can count on me, Mellon'e.** Always. "

We shook hands, and when elf left the room, I walked over to Malia.

The blanket she was covered with slipped off a bit, so I adjusted it and accidentally woke her up.

"Hey..." She said sleepily.

"Hey. " I replied. "Sorry, I didn't want to wake you up. It's late now, go to sleep. " I added and brushed a strand of her hair away.

I wanted to go, but girl grabbed my hand.

"Stay. " She pleaded. "Please. "

I smiled slightly and agreed to her request.

I lay down next to her in bed, put my arm around her, and Lia hugged me. I missed those moments. Fortunately, she was alive and well.

"Legolas also gave you something to speed up the healing so the wound should heal soon, knowing their elven tricks." I laughed.

"Right. " She smiled. "It's already disappearing. Mine wound. "

"That's good. " I said and kissed her forehead. "I wrote a letter to Thorin. " I added after a moment and caught her attention.

"What you've written? " She asked.

"Truth. " I replied. "I wrote that you were injured and about the death of Balin and Boromir... And about Frodo and Sam... And about this, and that, and that before that, and that after that, before that after..."

"Okay, shut up. " She laughed, but I didn't stop so she kissed me to shut me up.

"You managed to silence me. " I said as we moved away from each other. "But not for long. " I added to which she laughed again. "I missed it, you know? Your laughter, your kisses... It didn't take that long, but... I was scared ... I was scared that I would lose you. "

"You won't. " She said confidently. "Never. " Added and kissed me again. "Thorin wrote something back? " Asked after a moment.

"Yes, there's a letter from him and from Fili. "

I handed her the letters. Girl read them carefully and then decided we had to let them know they were okay. Of course she was right.

I saw that she was worried about Thorin's condition, but I assured her that it would be all right as soon as Oakenshield knew she was alive. Then he'll surely get better.

"What about Aragorn? " She asked after a moment. "Is he... "

"There was no news or anything. " I replied. "I know you don't believe his death. Me, too. He's too smart for that. " I laughed lightly and Lia joined me.

We spent the next minutes in silence enjoying each other. I kept my arm around Malia and she cuddled into my chest. I felt her breathing calmly, I was able to hug her again. I got her back.

After a few moments, I felt her breathing slow down which meant she fell asleep. I smiled at the sight then leaned over to her and kissed her forehead.

"I love you..." I whispered despite the fact that she was asleep.

Within minutes, I fell asleep too.

Despite the fact that there was war ahead of us, I wanted to enjoy every moment spent with my wife.
