"So, uh, who's looking after you then?" Jacob and the small girl had settled at the bar beside her.
"I'm staying at a children's home in Guelston, up the way. Except I ain't staying exactly. I'm on the run, you see. And I ain't going back. 'Cause I'm joining your crew," the little girl now know as an orphan said confidently. Lillianna smirked into her cup as Jacob spluttered and chuckled almost choking on his drink.
"Oh, no, you ain't. A hunting ship ain't no place for a kid," he said. Like he can talk. The story of him being the youngest hunter still resonated through the kingdom.
"You joined the ship when you were me age, and look at you now. You're a weapon against nature's darkest design. It says so on page 92," The little girl said opining a book and showing it to him.
"Look, kid, I'm clever with a spear, but I've been lucky more than once. There's no guarantee of making it to page 92. Trust me. Now, you should run along," he said pushing the book back to her. There was a few moments of silence as they had a stare down.
"Right, then. I'll talk to Captain Crow. That's a man with real authority," Lillianna almost chuckled out loud at her words. The girl confidently strode up to another hunter. "Do you know where I might find Captain Crow?" she asked.
"Hey! I... I have authority. All right?" Jacob said defensively.
"You ain't captain, are ya?" she asked indifferently.
"Uh, no, but I am captain material," he stated proudly cause her to laugh in bemusement.
"Captain material?" she asked clearing her throat and turning serious again. "Sorry. It just sounds funny," she said with a smirk.
"I mean, I will be captain. Someday," he said.
"Well, I intend to get on that ship. So, if you don't mind, I'll take it up with Captain Now, not Captain Someday," she said defiantly turning on her heal. Lillianna did laugh at that statement luckily enough the singing hiding it from the duo. She watched as he picked her up onto his shoulder.
"Hey! Put me down! Let me go! Monster hunters are supposed to be heroes," she thrashed as he walked out of the tavern.
"And here's me saving you. Evening, Rosie. You go through Guelston?" he asked a carriage driver.
"Aye," the driver gave a simple response.
"Right. Let her out there and not before. If that's not too much trouble," he said flickering her a coin.
"Aye," she nodded catching it.
"Hey! This is kidnapping!" Maisie yelled.
"No, love. It's the opposite of kidnapping," he said placing her in the carriage and closing the door behind her. Shaking her head Lillianna turned back to the bar. Kids got spirit she had to say. At one point a fight broke out. Lillianna was staying out of it mostly until she was knocked into someone. Who ever it was caught her there arms reaching round to hold her steady as they fell. Her eyes widened as the two large hands hold slightly tighter onto her beasts at the impact. Spinning around she saw the bashful face of Jacob as he chuckled nervously pulling his hands up in defence. Her eyes narrowed into a glare her fist cracking out planting a solid one on his cheek.
Stepping of him she tried to ignore the abs she felt under her hand's before walking out.
Heading back to the castle she snuck back into her room silently closing the door behind her.
"And where pray tell have you been?" she froze in her place at the sickly sweet voice.
"I was just uh. Visiting red," she said slowly turning around to see her handmaid sitting in a chair with the light of a candle beside her and a not so happy look on her face.
"For the whole night?" she asked. Lillianna chuckled nervously before sighing.
"I'm gonna be engaged soon. I-I just wanted one last ha ra," she said simply. The maid sighed disapprovingly.
"Its dangerous out there for a princess your majesty" The maid said firmly.
"I'm not a princess out there, I'm just an ordinary commoner," Lillianna argued.
"All it takes is for one person to recognize you, then all hell breaks lose," the maid argued back her point more probable.
"I know, but I'm sick and tired of this stupide palace. I want to explore I want to see the world, even if its just a small corner of it," Lillianna said moving to the large map she had painted by hand on her wall.
"Your a princess, you ever know a princess that travelled the world?" her maid asked. She was right.
"Well maybe I don't want to be a princess," Lillianna proposed the idea placing her hands on her hips.
"I know. But you don't have a choice," the maid said taking the princess shoulder firmly.
"Come on, lets get you cleaned up," she said pulling her away the princess's eyes lingering on the map a few moment's longer.
