It was quite a sight. A young girl staring down a monster, only her word's enough to stop it dead in its tracks.
"If you do this, it never ends," Maisie said. The people gathered looked on in anticipation.
Jacob walked past his father taking the ornamental spear stepping up to Maisies side. Raising it above his head he proclaimed.
"No more monster hunting!" he declared before bringing the spear down on his knee the wood splitting clean in half. Red pulled back slightly, a sign that she didn't want to fight.
"Impossible," the queen whispered in disbelief. It was indeed impossible, but yet there it was. Red growled softly ducking her head down to allow them to get on. With a puff of wind from her nose she looked to Lillianna that had hung back slightly. Maisie smiled holding out her hand to her. So as Red raised up to her full height to face the King and Queen, Jacob and Lillianna were right by Maisie's side.
"You did good, kid," Jacob said looking down at Maisie proudly.
"I ain't done," she said with determination slipping out of Jacobs grasp and walking to the side of Red heads to face the people. Raising the book she started to speak.
"Our books, our history, is a lie. I don't believe the beasts ever threatened our shores," she said chucking it down whispers racing through the people.
"It was just a story. A story told by them!" she declared pointing an accusing finger to the King and Queen who let out small sounds of bafflement.
"For generations, they've taught us to hate the beasts and sent the hunters out to destroy them. And the beasts learned to fear us and hate us, and they fought back!" Maisie had moved to face the royals directly.
"Who are you to malign your king and queen with such falsehoods? You have no right to!" the king declared agrily.
"I have every right!" Maisie yelled tears gathering in her eyes.
"I come from a long line of hunters that died your great death! Your kingdom was paid for with their blood, and their blood!" Maisie said gesturing to the hunters and then to Red beneath her.
"Enough! General, give the command!" The queen yelled. The generals grip tightened on her sword as she got ready to give the command.
"General," Lillianna spoke up drawing her friends eyes to her.
"Halt," Her words was small, but it held a big meaning. This was the first time she had opened gone against her parents. That command from there princess was enough to stay there hands just a little longer. Afterall she was the future Queen.
"This war was started by the kings and queens what come before. And with every lie, their empire grew. Now this lot stands on the same perch and tells the same lies. For their greed," Maisie continued. The king and queen were getting nervous now. There big secret was coming to light.
"General!" the king yelled in outrage.
"Let it end. Let it end!" Maisie begged.
People often overlook children. Some think there not as important or as power as adults, and in some cases they were. But in the case of the future children were the strongest. So with ones childs words another's echoed through the quiet space.
"Listen to her!" a child called from below. A call that started a resonating sound through the people as they called for the beast to be freed.
"Let the beast go!" another villager yelled.
"Listen to the child!" Another one. Soon the peoples words resonated with the same cry, there words drowning out the Kings and Queens authority.
Maisie turned around to see Jacob and Lillianna watching her with nothing but pride and astonishment in there eyes.
"Now I'm done," she said. The three rushed forward smashing into each others embrace as they held each other tightly.
"All right, Red. We best go," Jacob said patting reds head. Lillianna smiled grabbing Masies face showing it with kisses. Red turned and started to leave.
"What are you doing? Fire! Your queen demands it!" The queen yelled.
"General, shouldn't we fire?" The sargent asked. The general sethed her sword turning to the King and Queen.
"My brother was on the Monarch, Sergeant," she stated. The king and queen gave each other worried looks before running back into the castle there tail tucked between there legs. The people cheered as the general looked back out to the beast to Lilianna who was already looking back at her with a proud smile.
"And I want to know how this war started," she added.
Back on red head Maisie stood in between Lillianna and jacob. Both girls noticed jacob rubbing his leg.
"That hurt, didn't it?" Maisie smiled.
"You have no idea," he said with a small grin pulling her into a side hug. Lillianna smiled softly at the to Maisie smiled up at her holding her hand.
"I though you were gonna be a princess?" she asked.
"Well, you know, I never much liked it," Lillianna said cheekily pulling the pin from her hair letting her natural curls flow freely.

Two lives were saved that day. One man and one beast. And with that, the world began to change. No ship would ever sail the Dregmorr again. And the mysteries beyond would remain undisturbed. I don't think about it much though. Red is safe, and I have everything I need right here.
