After a long and dreadful class, the bell finally rings. You quickly gather up all your things and leave the classroom in hopes that you'll avoid a potential conversation or comment. You rush to the library for study hall and immediately put a pair of earbuds in and listen to music at full volume to drown out the voices inside and outside of your head. You take one earbud out of your ear while roll call goes on so that you can raise your hand when your name is called. Afterwards, you go back to drowning the world out. You stare blankly at the table you're sitting at, thinking to yourself about all the things you've been subjected to lately. You finally decide to work on some homework, but soon after starting, you notice all your classmates getting up and leaving, showing that the bell has rung. You sigh and hastily put your things away and walk to your last class of the day.
You sit down at your regular desk next to Amira, who seems to be afraid to talk to you. She just stares nervously, which causes you to start feeling uncomfortable. She takes a deep breath and lets out a long sigh in order to somehow ease the tension. She asks, "So... How's it going? You feel any better since gym?" You try to steady your breath and reply, "I'm fine." "You don't look fine." You sigh, "Amira, please. I'm not in the mood." She sighs in return, "Alright... I'm here though, if you need anything." You nod, "Okay. Thanks." You go through the rest of class feeling awkward. As the end of the day approaches, you slowly begin to pack your things up, and when the bell actually rings, you're ready to go. You quickly leave the room to avoid any interactions.
As you walk through the hallway, you feel as though everyone is staring at you again. You look down at ground to avoid their painful gazes. Not paying attention to what you're doing, you end up bumping into someone again, making them fall to the ground. It's Violet and Tate, Spooky High's most sickeningly sweet couple. Violet says, "Hey! Watch where you're going!" She looks up at you. You start hearing murmurs of other students around you, and you realize they're actually staring at you for real this time. You start to freak out internally, your breathing getting more intense, and you can feel yourself starting to sweat. Violet grunts, getting Tate to stand up and put his hands on his hips. He towers over you, his shadow casted over your body. You start trembling in your shoes and take a few uneasy steps back, and your body is stopped by a wall of muscle. It's Archie, who puts a hand on your shoulder. He steps in front of you and barks out, "Hey! They didn't mean to! Pick on someone your own size!" He cracks his knuckles to show that he's ready to fight. Tate cracks his knuckles too, and Violet says, "Bring it on, puppy dog. This'll be easy." The rest of the pack steps out from behind you, also ready to defend you. A big fight ensues, but you quickly walk past it all and get to your locker.
As you root around your locker for the things you need to take home, you hear other students talking about an epic fight taking place. You feel shame wash over you, feeling as though you're the cause of the fight. After collecting your things, you quickly exit the building, hoping to yourself that you don't encounter anyone else.
As you walk down the sidewalk, you hear quick, thudding footsteps behind you. "(Y/N)!" You turn around to see Archie running to you, and he has a black eye. He catches up to you, panting. After catching his breath, he says, "Here..." He hands you a textbook you must have dropped earlier. You reply, "Oh. Thanks." You grab the book, holding it close to you. He asks, "You good?" "I... I'm fine. You didn't need to do that for me." You sheepishly look up at him, staring at his black eye." "Aww, c'mon. That's what family's for, right?" You nod, "I guess so..." You stand in awkward silence for a moment before he says, "Alright, well, see ya." He turns back and starts walking away. You look down at the book in your hand, feeling really bad about the unnecessary situation. You call out, "Wait!" He stops and turns around, looking back down at you, making you feel a little nervous. He says, "What? I've gotta go, I need to get to work." "It won't take long, just get down on one knee." He looks at you, confused, but still listens to you regardless. He gets down on one knee, and you set your book down on the ground. You put one hand on his shoulder and put the other one over his eye. You focus your energy on his eye and feel a warmth coming from your hand. You pull it away, and his eye is back to normal. He reaches up and feels it, saying, "Oh, shit. Thanks." He stands back up, ruffling your hair. You tell him, "No problem. It's the least I could do..." He fist bumps you and walks away again. You pick your book back up and start walking home again.
Once you get home and put your hand on the doorknob, you feel nervous. You slowly pull your hand away and take a few steps back. You take seat on the steps of your front porch to calm yourself down. After a few minutes, you try going inside again, still feeling uncomfortable. Your mom smiles at you, "Hello honey, how was your day today?" You lie, "It was good." "Did anyone give you a hard time?" The grip on the book in your hands tightens slightly as you think about Violet and Tate, and you silently hope your mom doesn't notice. You say, "Nope. Everything was fine." She looks you up and down, her eyes feeling like literal daggers in your skin. "Alright," she says. You go to your room and sit down.
You continue feeling a pain in your uncut arm, so you take your hoodie off to look at it. You are equally shocked and frightened to see a few small cuts that you didn't even put there. You put your hoodie back on to ignore it, and you lie down for a while.
