25. The Oberlin Residence

"Go ahead, (Y/N). Tell them." You shook your head. "It's okay. You can tell them." You look around the room. Everyone is staring. Your mom looks at you patiently. You slowly start to speak. "He gets mad a lot." "No, sweetie. The other stuff. You don't need to be afraid." You look across the room at your father. He's looking down at the table he's at. A sad look in his eyes. You continue. "Sometimes he hits us." Your dad looks up from the table, confusion and fear is all over his face. A loud, male voice asks, "How hard does he hit you?" "Very." "How often?" "Only once in a while." Do you think he is a bad person?" "No." Your mother looks at you as if you said something wrong. She gives you the 'you're in trouble' face. The male voice asks again, "Are you sure?" "Maybe a little." After being asked multiple more questions about your home situation, a group of people leave the room. Once they reenter the room, they say. "Your honor, we find the defendant guilty." The male voice loudly says, "I sentence you to 6 years in prison." Your mother looked pleased. She was happy with what you said. She was happy that you wouldn't see your father for a long time.

You wake up in an unfamiliar place. It's dark outside, but the light is on in the room. You rub your eyes, and sit up. Both of your arms are wrapped in bandages. Right next to you is Scott, sleeping. His eyes look puffy, like he was crying. You exit the room, and walk down the hallway, into an open room. There's a couch, a tv, and other furniture. On the other side of the room is a kitchen, with a dining table. In between the living room and kitchen is a door, that looks like it leads outside. "Ohoho, and what are you doing out of bed?" You turn around to see a tall cat man. He looks friendly and harmless, but he started talking so suddenly that he made you jump. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you, I just didn't think you'd be awake so soon." After looking at and analyzing the man, you start to realize he looks like Valerie. "W-Where am I, sir?" He laughs, "Sir? Well I haven't been spoken to so formally since my last parent/teacher for Valerie and Vera's behavioral issues! Please kid, call me Tom. Or Mr. Oberlin will do!" "Oh! Are you Vera and Valerie's dad?" "Why yes I am! And who might you be?" He holds a hand out to you. "My name is (Y/N)." "Well it's a pleasure to meet you, (Y/N). Welcome to my home." "What.. happened to me?" "Well, Vera told me that you stormed out of your own house, and ran away. When they found you, you had passed out and had cuts in your arms, they got really scared. When she brought you here, I got our guest bedroom ready, and we put you there. I tried to get that wolf boy away from you so you could rest, but he refused to leave your side. I let him stay after he started crying, and he cried for a while. But he calmed down about a half hour ago, so I assumed he finally fell asleep. I don't know what your relationship is with him, but he cares about you deeply." Suddenly, a crash was heard, and Scott came running out of the room, freaking out. When he saw you, he cried again. He ran and picked you up, holding you close. He couldn't even say anything, he was crying so hard. You looked him in the eyes, and started crying as well. "Scott, I-" Scott puts his hand over your mouth. "I don't care! I'm just glad that your safe." Mr. Oberlin puts his arms around the two of you and says, "I hate to ruin the moment, but it's about 2 in the morning, and we should all be getting to bed." Scott carries you back to the room, and you both fall asleep immediately.

When you awaken, Scott is still sitting next to you in bed, looking at his phone. You wrap your arm around his, saying "Good morning." He says good morning back and kisses your cheek, and starts getting up. "C'mon." You attempt to get up, but struggle. You're somehow more exhausted than when you got up earlier. Continuing to struggle, Scott picks you up, and carries you out of the room. You immediately smell something good. Scott takes you into the same room as earlier, and you see Vera, Valerie, and their father. Vera's cooking, Valerie's looking at her phone, and their dad is reading the newspaper. When you sit down, they notice you. Valerie says, "'Bout time you two woke up. Vera was about to put everything away. Vera sets down breakfast in front of Valerie, her dad, and an empty seat, for herself. She says, "What do you two want?" Scott said he doesn't care, and you say, "Nothing, I'm good." Vera says, "Okaaaay." Valerie gets up from the table, and whisper something in Vera's ear. Vera nods her head, and Valerie gets into the fridge. After a few minutes, Vera sets down a big plate of eggs and bacon for Scott, and a plate of 2 eggs, and 2 pieces of bacon for you. You start saying, "But-" And then Valerie puts a piece of toast with jelly on it by your plate too. "I said I'm not hungry." Vera sits down and says, "Well that sucks, because you're getting food anyway, and I expect you to eat it all.", and starts eating her food. "Well do you have any coffee or something?" Valerie sets down some cups for everyone and starts pouring drinks. "We have tea." "Any sugar?" Valerie gets into the cabinet, and puts a jar of honey in front of you. "I recommend one spoonful." Valerie sits down and starts eating as well. Their dad starts talking to them about things going on in their life, and things in his life. They all take their time eating, except Scott, who just starts wolfing it down. You take a bite, and it's amazing. You glance up at Vera again, and she gives you a smirk and a wink. You continue eating, and Mr. Oberlin tries including you into the conversation. He asks you about your interests and hobbies, and it turns out he really likes your favorite tv show. You two talk about that for few minutes as everyone finishes their food. Vera takes the dishes and tells Scott to help clean them. A few minutes later, Mr. Oberlin gets up and says he has to get ready for work. You get up too and give Vera and Valerie a hug. "Thank you guys so much for this, I forgot how good breakfast can be." "You are so very welcome." You very obviously look from Vera to Scott. "Do you mind if I take over?" "Help yourself." Vera walks away and takes Valerie with her. You tap Scott on the shoulder, and he looks at you. You cup his face with your hands, and make his face level with yours. You give him a little peck on the lips, and begin washing the dishes. You both finish the dishes in silence, enjoying eachother's company. You spend the rest of the day with Vera and Valerie. You all run a few errands, do your homework, and make dinner together. Once you finish doing the dishes again, you make an attempt to get back home. "Thank you very much for letting me stay over, it has been fun, and I'll see you guys Monday." Everyone looks at eachother nervously. Scott kneels down in front of you and grabs your hand. "(Y/N), your house is.. Well.. Really messed up.." Vera adds, "You're little.. Fiasco.. Caused the walls to break, a lot of furniture to be destroyed, and well..." Vera sighs. "I guess you should see for yourself."
