George and Dream had started their journey away from the cave a couple of moments ago.
There were different places that lead out from the cave, but both boys hoped that one led to the surface or closer to.
As they walked, they made small talk, but it was mostly silent. The only thing being heard was the light humming of a tune that the blonde whirred under his breath. A tune that the brunette wasn't familiar with, but he didn't dare question it.
However, as they treaded down one of the many pathways that led away from the cave, the taller couldn't help but notice the so often brief glances that the brunette sent his way.
His eyes seemed to glimmer slightly. Behind his big, doe, brown pupils bloomed curiosity and unanswered questions that he so wished were answered.
After this kept happening for what Dream would assume was five minutes, he finally decided to say something about it, silently pleading that he wouldn't regret mentioning it.
Him and the brunette had made progress in being civilized with one another compared to when they first crossed paths and he didn't want all that go to waste, despite that they still hated one another's core. It was better when they were in control, even though all they wanted in the moment was to finish eachother off.
"What's with all the staring?" The blonde asked, his hands pocketed in the warm patches of his cargo pants as he didn't meet the brunette's eyes. Instead, he kept his eyes forward as they kept walking.
The brunette seemed a bit startled by the sudden question, along with realization that he was, well.. busted.
He shook his head, diverting his sight to the front of them as well as he muttered a quiet, "Nothing."
The grass color eyed boy glanced at the other momentarily from the side before looking straight ahead once more. "The looks your giving me says other wise," the blonde responded, clicking his tongue.
And he was right. The looks George gave him were filled with confusion and interest. His eyebrows pinched together ever so often as if he were at war with his mind and thoughts and to be fair, it made Dream wonder what was going on in the other's brain.
The shorter shuddered. A ghosted feeling crawled up his back as he saw how easy it was for the taller to read him without barely sparing him a peek.
George held his breath before giving in, something that the blonde noticed the brunette did alot ; it didn't take him much to start talking.
"Why do you wear that mask?" The boy in the blue shirt asked, genuine peculiarity laced within his words.
The one who wore the thick, green hoodie snorted, a smirk framing his lips. "For anonymity, why else?" He spoke as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
The other shook his head out of annoyance, huffing out a breath as he realized that his prey didn't quite understand what he was talking about.
"Obviously, I meant why that specific mask? It's creepy," the brown eyed boy clarified, suppressing a shudder as he looked away, the image of the menacing mask appearing in his mind.
Finally, Dream turned to him. "That's the whole point," he said as he crossed paths with the brunette, walking infront of him and to the side of him.
Or what he thought was him.
Dream approached another pathway, causing his smirk to grow. "Hey, look. There's another path here," he spoke.
Out of all the paths they'd taken, all led to a dead end, except for this one.
Hope spiked within them as George walked up to the entrance they'd discovered. The newly found pathway looked promising as he looked up at the blonde, who was hovering over him.
"Do we check it out now or do we go back?" The blonde asked.
It was still morning. Everything was happening so quick, yet so smoothly.
Just a couple of days ago they were fighting to the death, pushing themselves harder and harder to beat the other as adrenaline blinded them.
But now, they were seemingly working together to find a way out of the underground prison they'd found themselves in, inches away from eachother. So close that their shoulders grazed one another.
George bit his lip, really thinking about the question. He glanced over his shoulder, eyeing the visible part of the wound that was on his back.
The bleeding had stopped but he hadn't taken the bandages off just yet- since they had none left.
The brunette didn't want you risk anything by going in, still injured. What if they got more hurt, or what if they'd found themselves in a pickle? But it would all be worth it if it meant that they had an advantage.
The brunette sighed as he said, "Let's check it out now. If we do, we'll know what we're working with sooner than later."
Dream smirked underneath his mask, both boys knowing that the blonde had spoken almost exactly the same words earlier. George rolled his eyes as the blonde stated a small 'okay.'
So, there they were, treading down another pathway, slight excitement running in their veins to find out what there was.
When they made it to the other end, it was more of the ravine. They were back in a huge crack in the earth, but just deeper down.
The ravine was long, broad and huge- they still had so much more to explore.
"Woah," Dream barely muttered under his breath, as he looked up to the sky, more specifically the sun, in awe.
George followed his gaze- his breath being taken away. He smiled as he said, "A Solar Eclipse."
Dream smiled along with him as both boys were dazed in admiration at the absolute beautiful sight in the sky.
Around the golden, shining buzzer was a vibrant, lively rainbow, that ringed around the fiery, fierce planet.
"Okay," George chuckled, tearing his gaze away from the sky. "stop looking at it or you'll damage your eyes."
The blonde's smile grew wider and brighter behind his mask as he forced himself to look away and at the brunette who stood infront of him.
"That was the most beautiful thing that I've ever seen," the taller spoke, shocking George a bit by the genuine admiration and happiness in his tone.
The brunette rolled his eyes, scoffing under his breath, but yet he still wore a silly grin as he said, "You act as if you've never seen one before."
Dream shrugs, still fighting the urge to glue his eyes back up at the sky. "That's because I haven't.," he said.
The brown eyed boy's smile slowly faded to a wary, half smirk. He honestly felt a bit bad that the other's never seen a solar eclipse before- until now, which made him happy in a way he'd never be able to understand and explain.
Dream chuckled deeply. "Don't worry, I don't need your pity. It is quite beautiful, though," he stated, stepping back a bit from the shorter.
"Come on, now," he announced as his back started turning the opposite way of the other. "We still have so much to discover."

Two chapters at once?! Dream, this is the best you've done🤭🤭.
I didn't mean to write about the whole mask thing and solar eclipse thing, it makes me go off track from the story line, BUT the solar eclipse part was literally too adorable for me to not write on SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT 😈🤪
