Sapnap huffed out a puff of air, wiping the sweat that beaded along his hairline as he adjusted his new, heavy armor. The air felt thick around him as he was surrounded by others who wore the same clothing as him. It had already been mere hours since they've began looking for George as torches were being lit once more for what seemed to be the hundredth time that morning.
The ravenette estimated it to be around four hours into the new day since they left exactly when it hit midnight.
With tired eyes, Sapnap scanned the crowd of dozens of hunters, looking for a singular, specific, familiar face.
Wilbur was still no where to be found. Sapnap didn't know where he ran off to, but it was clearly important since he couldn't make it to something this important. But as if on cue, the ravenette felt a light tap on his shoulder, swiftly turning around of his heel to come face to face with the one and only Head Hunter.
Sapnap exhaled a breath of relief. "Thank God you're here. These people are driving me absolutely insane," the ravenette muttered, dragging his palm over his face as a playful groan escaped his lips. Wilbur rolled his eyes dramatically, fixing his glasses that sat on the bridge of his nose as he responded with, "Quit overreacting, Sapnap. They aren't that bad."
A breathy chuckled pushed past the ravenette's lips as he raised his hands in defeat, not bothering to argue with the brunette because what he said wasn't a complete lie. Though the rest of the hunters were an absolute pain in the ass, they were responsible and knew exactly what they were doing. But most of all, they were family.
"Where have you been?" Sapnap changed the subject, his tone shifting to one that was a bit more serious. The brunette hummed quietly under his breath, pocketing his hands in his trousers as he responded with, "I managed to get into contact with the Solarians. Queen Niki said their forces should be arriving in around two days to help look for George, then Dream." The ravenette nodded in approval, knowing that the Solarian's forces were much more powerful than their own.
"It's ready!" A knight suddenly yelled into the dull moonlight, catching the attention of the other hunters as hushed whispered erupted into the air. Sapnap glanced at Wilbur, who was already looking at him with slightly furrowed eyebrows. "Walk with me," the brunette stated softly as the ravenette nodded in return, trailing not too far behind the head hunter as he approached the edge of the ravine.
Wilbur walked over to the edge of the ravine. For a while, the hunters were creating a safe way down into the caves with what resources they had, which wasn't much, atleast not without the King's offer. The brunette looked down, watching as the knights, in a crowded line, slowly descended down the pathway they carved into the walls. "You ready?" Sapnap asked, briefly glancing at the brit before averting his gaze into the ravine once more. Wilbur inhaled sharply before muttering, "Yeah."
Together, the duo carefully made their way down, cautious as to not slip and fall, which would cause the people behind them to fall as well. Think of it as a game of Domino ; when one goes down, so do the others, except this time, it wasn't a game.
Eventually, everyone made it to the ground, some hunters agreeing to stay at the Earth's surface since the search was bound to last days, maybe even stretch out into weeks and if they were really unlucky, months.
In a few, short moments, the duo felt themselves touching the ground once more. "North or South?" One of the knights asked Wilbur, seeing as the ravine was a one way route. Without hesitating, Wilbur responded with, "Sapnap will take a troupe to South and I'll take a troupe to North." The brunette turned to the rest of the hunters. "Pick which group you want to be in, I don't care. Just make sure it has enough people."
When everyone was in groups and ready to set off, Wilbur stated, "Make sure to listen to everything Sapnap says. He's in charge." The brunette received several thumb ups while the others just nodded. "Meet back here in two weeks," the brit said as he adjusted the loose bag that hung from his shoulder, which all the hunters had, that consisted of camping items and other necessities.
The brunette turned to the ravenette. "Sapnap," Wil breathed out, Sap turning to him with slightly furrowed eyebrows. "Yeah?" Wilbur momentarily glanced away before muttering out, "Be safe out there, okay? I want you back here in one piece." A breathy chuckle escaped the ravenette's lips which caused a light smile to spread across the brunette's face. Sapnap's expression softened just in the slightest. "I will, don't worry. Be careful, too, man," the shorter hunter stated before taking a step back.
For some reason, nerves twisted uncomfortable in Wilbur's stomach, uncertainty pulsing throughout his veins as he watched Sapnap move away, directing his group of hunters to do whatever he commanded. The ravenette flashed the brunette one last smile before disappearing within his crowd. Wilbur had no choice but to watch him leave as he suppressed the urge to reach back out for the other. He already lost George, he couldn't lose Sapnap, too.
