Chapter 18

Wanda's pov

I watched the door waiting patiently for Y/N to come back in but she never did. My parents and Pietro came in with Carol instead. They all knew about the miscarriage but they never spoke about it. Pietro tried to ease the air with some jokes and what he has done in work.

"Where did Y/N go?" I asked the four of them. 

"I'm not sure sweetie." Mum spoke softly from the space beside me as she ran her fingers through my hair. 

"She said that she had to take care of something." Carol spoke up earning a glare from Pietro. "She deserves to know where her wife is for crying out loud. She has just been shot and Y/N is on the Task Force so she is not entirely safe." 

Pietro's pov

I watched as Y/N approached the four of us quickly to tell us all that Wanda had woken up before she pulled Carol and I to the side as my parents went upstairs to see Wanda. 

"What's going on Y/N?" Carol asked her as she looked around. She was on edge for some reason. 

"I need you to stay here with Wanda." She told us both quietly. "Do not leave her side."

"What are you going to do?" I asked her as she looked around again.

"You're going to go after him aren't you?" Carol stated as Y/N just sighed.

"Don't do this Y/N. Your wife needs you by her side. She has just had a miscarriage and you are just going to leave her when she needs you the most." I said angrily.

"I have to do this. I couldn't protect her both times she got hurt because of me." She said with tears in her eyes. I have never seen her like this before. 

"What do you mean?" Carol asked her as she just shook her head. 

"Please just promise me she will be ok. Please." She whispered as I just nodded. 

"Come on Y/N, don't go back down that road." Carol tried to plead with her as she just shook her head. 

"I have to." She whispered as I looked between them both. I wanted to know what Carol was insinuating but Y/N just left without saying a word.

"She left to see if they found anything on the shooters." I told her as Wanda looked between Carol and I. She obviously knows that it's something more. 

"She's supposed to be here." Wanda whispered as she took in sharp breaths. I got up and hugged her tight as she just held onto me.

Y/N pov

I walked into the briefing room as everyone's head turned to me.

"Don't mind me. Carry on." I told Steve as Bucky gave me a worried look. I listened to every bit of information on the two perps. The second one was younger, he seemed to be learning the ropes from Bren. My eyes never left the pictures has Steve spoke. 

"They are both new recruits from the Hessians." Steve said as I cleared my throat. He looked at me expectantly to talk.

"The one with the Wiley Coyote tattoo, he used to be a part of The Boss's inner circle. One of the few he trusted with tasks." I spoke up. 

"Like what tasks?" Steve asked me. 

"He was in charge of training the new recruits and also babysitting the Boss's daughter." I told him as Bucky gave me a knowing look. "His name is Bren or Brendon Matthews."

"How do you know so much about this guy?" One of the rookies asked. 

"That's kind of personal and I don't know you so." I told them as Steve dismissed them all before he approached me with Bucky at his side. 

"You shouldn't be here." He told me as I chuckled. 

"I am your best chance at finding this guy. I know how he operates." I told him irritated by his lack of judgement in my skills. 

"This is too personal for you." He told me sternly as I chuckled dryly.

"Of course it is too personal." I raised my voice slightly. "He almost killed my wife and it caused her to have a miscarriage. He killed our baby." I shouted as my anger got the better of me. 

"You need to go to Wanda Y/N. We will find him." Steve tried to reassure as I just nodded and walked out of the room. As I made it to my car I heard Bucky call after me. 

"You're not listening to him are you." Bucky stated as I just shook my head no. "If you find him first you need to be quick and sneaky about it ok." He said as he gave me a hug before I got in my car and drove to my apartment to start searching for Bren. "I'm coming for you." I whispered to his mug shot that I had managed to get from a file that I had swiped from the station.

Wanda's pov

It has been hours since my parents left and even longer since Y/N left. I tried calling her but got no answer. Pietro was asleep in the chair beside me as Carol sat there watching the door for some reason. 

"What don't I know? I want the truth now my parents have gone." I told her sternly as she swallowed before she gave me her full attention.

"She is looking for the person who put you in here." She told me honestly. 

"Is she out of her mind. That can be dangerous." I told her as Pietro started to wake up.

"It will be dangerous because she isn't going to have the help of the Task Force. She wants to do it alone." She continued. "She is going to resort to an old method that she learnt when my father sent her to work with Strucker." I felt sick after hearing those words. I know what he taught her and now she is going to use it on another man. I could feel the tears in my eyes as Pietro just gave me a comforting hug.

"She is doing this to protect you." He whispered to me as I just cried harder. Within one day, my whole world just got turned upside down.
