The Long Run

(I wanted a song for this chapter and this was the only song I felt like it worked. I don't really listen to much of this kind of music but I used to when I really young. Hope you enjoy the chapter)

"Hunter, this is going to hurt...a lot. I'm sorry." Brooklynn grabbed hold of the quills in Hunters face and then yanked them out, causing Hunter to yell in agony despite feeling too numb to feel it.

Darius kneeled down on the other of Hunter as Brooklynn quickly begun to wrap up the left side of Hunters face, moving his hair out of the way as it had dipped into the blood that leaked from his face.

The two noticed Hunter begun to close his eyes again, Darius nudged him as Brooklynn tried talking to him.

"Hunter, you gotta stay with us...please! Hunter!" She cried out as his eyelids once again became to heavy to hold up.

By the time the Campers had settled down, Hunters green skin was a shade darker than Sammy's, the two had their heads propped up with some pillows next to each other. Sammy showed signs of life but Hunter...appeared lifeless.

Brooklynn had sat beside Hunter, holding his hand to let him know she's right now and to check on his pulse. Yasmina was doing the same thing with Sammy.

"We're here, guys. E-everything's gonna be okay." Yasmina stuttered out. She sighed as Sammy nor Hunter responded.

"Taking out the quills wasn't enough. The poisons already in their systems; they need an antidote!" Darius quietly stated. Kenji scoffed, "Oh, sure, yeah, an antidote. That'll be easy to find, considering no one even knew this thing existed."

"Maybe the medical supply station has something?" Ben suggested.

"Doubt it." Kenji stated.

Darius glanced at Hunters already worse condition than Sammy's...he'll obviously be the first to go if they don't find a way to cure them. "Kenji's right. The Scorpios rex wasn't supposed to ever get out."

Brooklynn, overhearing their small conversation, gasped as she remembered something.

"The video on Wu's old lab!" Brooklynn gently set Hunters hand down and walked over to the others. "He was attacked by the Scorpios, and they were giving him this shot from a red vial—I think they said antidote, I'm not—"

Yasmina suddenly shot up and grabbed Brooklynn by the shoulders. "Where is this lab?!"

Brooklynn reached into her jacket and pulled out a map and gave it to Yaz. "Near the Raptor paddock." Yasmina thinks for just a second before handing Brooklynn back the map.

"Take care of them until I get back..." Yaz then shoved Darius and Kenji to the side as he rushed off.

"Wait, Yaz! The Scorpios went that way!" Darius called out.

"I don't care what's out there! I'm saving Sammy and Hunter!" Yaz then remembered all the times Hunter threw himself in the way of danger just to protect them, how he'd do it without a thought.

"Hunter would do whatever it takes to save us! Sammy is my best friend but Hunter is a brother to me...I'm not failing them!"

She had disappeared into the dark jungle. "This is nuts! She can't outrun that thing!" Ben exclaimed.

"We have to figure out a way to help her somehow." Brooklynn said, wanting to make sure Yaz can get back to save Hunter and Sammy.
