chapter three: dahlia

You go home quickly to change and fix yourself up. This is a proposal, after all, so you should look good. Besides, taking a shower was good for your nerves. You then get into your car, drive to the restaurant, and step up to the hostess's table. You check your watch. 7:00 exactly.

"Hello, I have a reservation under Miya," you smile at her.

"I see," she nods politely as she looks down at her tablet screen. "Is it a party of one?"

"No, there's two of us. He's still on his way," you explain.

"Okay, no problem. Right this way," she says as she grabs a menu.

She leads you to a table set for two. You sit down and thank her for her kindness as she places the menu before you. You then wait for Osamu. You check your phone this time to make sure your watch isn't fast. 7:05. You've already been here for five minutes and Osamu hasn't shown. That's not like him.

The waiter soon approaches you and introduces himself. "Can I get you anything to drink to start?" he asks.

"No thank you. I'm waiting on someone still," you smile awkwardly.

"That's alright. I'll come check on you again in a bit."

"Thank you," you nod as you look down at the table. He walks away. 7:06. You sigh.

Where are you, Osamu?

7:09. Your waiter comes back and once more asks if you'd like anything while you wait.

"A glass of champagne would be great," you give in, hoping that it'll calm your nerves.

"I will be right back with that," he grins politely.

7:12. Your waiter brings you the glass of champagne. Osamu still hasn't arrived.

7:18. You take the last sip from the champagne glass and set it down on the empty table before you.

7:23. You ask for another.

7:31. You finish that one, too, and unlock your phone. You text Osamu asking where he is. Still, there is no answer.

7:40. With a sigh you put some cash down on the table. You walk out and step into your car.

8:04. Your car pulls into an empty parking lot. Osamu's car isn't here. You walk towards the empty house and unlock the door. You take off your shoes and step inside.

"Osamu?!" you call out about a dozen times alone from the front door. There's no answer.

You walk through the house looking for him. You start in the office, thinking maybe he's in there working and lost track of time. When you find it empty, you move into the kitchen and the dining room. He's in neither place.

With one last glimmer of hope, you walk upstairs into the bedroom. You turn on the light to the bathroom and peek inside before walking towards the bed. With a sigh, you sit down. You're positive now that he isn't home.

For whatever reason, your eyes catch onto the paperweight by his nightstand. You bend forward and pick up the preservative of a dandelion. You stare into the small bauble for another minute before putting it back down and pulling out your phone to call Osamu. Still, there is no answer.

You allow yourself to flop down onto the bed. You then dial your best friend, Aoi's number instead. She's a beautiful girl with short black hair and skin whiter than Snow White herself. She'd almost look like her if she ever wore red lipstick. Disney would probably hire her in a heartbeat.

Relief floods down your body when Aoi answers the phone.

"Y/N?" she calls out after not hearing your voice. "What's going on? Are you alright?"

You chew the inside of your cheek as you tell her everything that has happened tonight. Your nerves are beginning to get to you now and you hope to hear any bit of good news from Aoi.

"I'm going to call Kita and tell him what's going on. You call Atsumu and see if he's heard from his brother."

"Okay," you mutter quietly to yourself.

"Don't get yourself too worried. I'm sure he just got caught up with something."

After that, Aoi hangs up. You wonder if maybe Osamu had other plans he couldn't get out of. You don't think he'd cheat, but the thought now floats into your head. However, instead of dwelling on it too much, you call Atsumu. The phone rings but just before you're about to hang up, he answers it a bit out of breath.

"Hello? Y/N?"

"Hey, 'Tsumu. Have you heard from Osamu tonight?" you ask, trying to maintain your cool.

"No, why? Is he not at home?"

"We were supposed to go out for dinner but I haven't heard from him since this afternoon," you reply.

"Y/N, you aren't safe at home," he tells you. You sit up in your bed. It was just one sentence but it caused your anxiety to skyrocket.

"Why? What's going on?"

"I don't know but you shouldn't be there alone. You don't know if someone else is in there with you or not! Come to my place and get over here now!"

Immediately, you hang up the phone. You stand up and stare out into the dark room. You then realize a second later it was a bit rude to just end the call without another word.

You quickly pack a few clothes for an overnight stay at Atsumu's and rush out of the house. You almost forget to grab your keys and lock up before you go. You get into your car and drive off. Each time you step onto the gas, you feel your lag bounce anxiously, involuntarily.

When you arrive at Atsumu's house, he rushes right out of the house. As you step out of the car and lock it behind you, he throws his arms around your waist and hugs you. "I was so worried when you hung up. I thought something happened. What the hell, Y/N?!" Atsumu then pulls back, realizing his action was a bit much. "Are you okay?"

You nod. "I'm fine, just a bit out of it right now. I'm confused and I don't understand what's going on or where he is."

"Come on, let's go inside. I'll make you something to eat and we can talk... or not talk if you don't want to," he says with a small grin.

"Thanks," you nod once more as you wrap your hand around his arm and pull yourself close to him as he shows you the way inside.
