chapter nine: yellow tulip

Atsumu steps out of his car and walks around to the truck. Without getting out, you watch as he pulls out a large duffle bag before closing the trunk again. He then walks around and opens your door. "Let's go," he says as he holds out his hand to you. You nod and take his hand as you step out.

The two of you walk side by side into the waiting room. Atsumu waves to the receptionist as he walks past and steps into the doctor's office as though he owned the place. Inside is a handsome man with eyes as dark as the devil's and a grin as wide as if he actually was one.

The doctor completely ignores Atsumu as he walks up to you. "Ah, hello," he hums in a smooth voice before bending to kiss your hand. However, you pull it away just before his lips reach your skin. Though you were tempted for a moment, you remember Atsumu's warning and take a step closer to him instead.

"What's wrong, love?" the doctor asks, "You are the one walking into my office unannounced, are you not? One could only presume..."

Atsumu clears his throat and makes his presence known. "Doctor, this woman here is my boss. I'd appreciate it if you could show a bit more thought in your words. She may have me take my business elsewhere if she does not approve," he smiles.

"My apologies," the doctor bows to you slightly. "I had no idea."

"That's just fine," you nod politely, though you already don't have a good feeling about this guy.

The doctor walks off to the far side of his office and pushes a bookcase to the side. Behind it, he reveals a door with a set of stairs just on the other side. He goes down first. You look over at Atsumu who smiles and holds out his hand, indicating for you to go first. With a deep breath, you take your first step down.

In the basement is a large freezer room that could compete for the temperature at the north pole. Your sweatshirt does nothing to keep you the least bit warm.

The doctor opens up a large chest freezer which you presume is filled with body parts. He then unlocks the one beside it and turns to face Atsumu. "You can take what you want as usual, but you know the deal. You gotta move it yourself. I've got my own stuff to deal with."

"Yeah, yeah, I know. I got it, Doctor."

The doctor nods and passes a wink your way before waving and ascending the stairs. Atsumu places the duffle bag he brought on the table in the middle of the room and pulls a second one from within. "Stop staring at the doc and get to work," Atsumu grins as he tosses one of the bags your way.

You open the duffle and scoff at Atsumu's comment. "I was not staring. He's an asshole! I'd never go anywhere near that guy!"

"Pretty sure that's what his three wives said at first," he laughs as he walks to the first freezer.

You roll your eyes as you turn to face the freezer in front of you. You carefully open it and look inside to see it's absolutely packed with airtight bags of different organs. "Which ones am I supposed to get?" you ask Atsumu.

"Whatever you want. We'll sort it all out later," he says as he packs a few organs into his bag.

"Okay," you say nervously as you look back down into the freezer. You take a deep breath and slowly reach your hand inside. You feel the squish of a liver as you reach your hand inside the cold freezer. "God, this is fucking gross! How do you do this for a living?!"

Atsumu laughs at your reaction, getting a good kick out of your squeamishness. "It pays beautifully, so why not? It's not all that bad."

"Do you even know where that guy gets this stuff from?" you continue to ask as you gently place the liver into your bag.

"Y/N, trust me, you don't want to know the answer to that."

"Okay then how do you pay for this little interaction?" you ask as you walk back to the freezer. "I mean, why does he agree to this?"

Atsumu stops what he's doing, throwing a brain mindlessly into his bag. "All I do is make sure the doctor doesn't get caught by the cops," he shrugs. "It's a steal honestly. Being in the syndicate has some great perks."

You accept the somewhat boring answer and continue to pack organs into your duffle. Once it reaches its maximum, you ask, "Where are we going with all this stuff now?"

"I usually bring them to Samu... and he sells them online, but-"

"What?!"

"Oh? You didn't know?" he asks as he analyzes your surprised reaction.

"I had no idea," you shake your head. "He didn't really talk about his job that much but I didn't think this is what he did. Besides, he said he helped people make their own websites!"

"Yeah, well, I'm pretty sure he does do that, but I also think he didn't want to freak you out," he explains.

"I suppose so," you nod. Right now, Osamu being an organ trafficker is the last thing you care about. You just wish he'd come home.

Atsumu walks over to you. You don't notice- too lost in thought- until he's practically leaning over you to get a good look at how much stuff you have in your bag.

"I think that's enough. Let's go bring everything to the car. Good job Y/N," he smiles.

"Thanks," you remark as you zip up your bag of organs. You then quietly follow him outside. Nobody in the lobby says a single word to either of you. They must all know what's going on since they see Atsumu so often they know to wave at him when he walks in.

Atsumu opens up the trunk of his car again and tosses his duffle inside. You try not to listen to the squelch of the organs shift around as he tosses your bag in next. He then shuts the door and lets out a satisfied sigh. After, with a quick lock for extra measure, your job is done.
