chapter twenty six: platycodon

After your talk with Daisho, you drive back to Atsumu's house and gather up the money you've earned so far. Atsumu isn't around thankfully, but you gather your things quickly. You then drive off to the nearby mall's parking lot and wait in your car with the doors locked. About five minutes later, there's a knock on your passager side door. You look over to make sure you know who it is before unlocking the door. He then opens it up and steps into your car.

"Hello, Y/N," he greets you as he shuts the door behind himself.

"Kuroko. I'm sorry for meeting like this but I'm at the point where I don't know who I can trust anymore," you tell him.

"Is this about Osamu's disappearance or about the money you owe me?" he asks calmly.

"Listen, it wasn't until recently that I found out why our two gangs never got along. It's quite clear to me now that my dad was a total asshole and he clearly overstepped his boundaries. There's nothing more in my power that I can do to show you my apology besides promising you that it will no longer continue to happen. I will make sure you get back what is rightfully yours and make sure it's known within my syndicate to stay within the confines of our syndicate's domain," you explain sincerely.

Kuroko nods once you're finished speaking. "You make quite a good leader, Y/N. I accept your apology and do hope that our syndicates can get along in the future after, of course, you pay what is owed."

"I thought you would say that," you begin as you reach into the back part of your car, "but this really is an emergency. You see, I recently found out what happened to Osamu. I believe that two of my kyodai's, Oikawa and Ushijima, worked together to murder him."

You pull up a black backpack and place it into your lap. You then unzip it and show Kuroko all of the money you had worked so hard to earn within the past few weeks.

"I know it's not everything, but I will stop the killing, stop the stealing," you plead to him.

"In exchange for?..."

"I want them both dead. Oikawa and Ushijima," you admit bluntly.

"Okay, well do you have some kind of plan? You can't just spring that on me with no real plan and expect me to be on board with the whole thing," he replies.

"We'll meet at the end of this week. I'll tell my syndicate that I didn't give you the money in time and that you are planning to come for me. Oikawa and Ushijima will of course be on the frontlines of this battle. When the time's right, we'll turn on them," you explain a bit scatterbrained.

"And what do you expect us to do in the meantime? Kill each other or sing while we're all holding hands and skipping in a circle?" He then takes a moment to pause and realize what he said is so unlike him. "Sorry, kinda sounded like Aomine there for a sec... Anyways, what do you want me to do?"

"Make it look like a real fight," you tell him. "I'll get my hands dirty, too, I won't just sit back and watch. But I'll give my kyodai's a heads up before we go. Like I said before, I don't plan on letting you lose anyone else."

"And after it's done?" he asks.

"I won't be as forgiving as I was when Daisho murdered my father and my brother. I learned my lesson about being too soft from that," you smile.

"Good. I wouldn't want our work to be all for nothing," he nods in agreement with you. "Let's meet up again soon. I mean, apart from this fight. I enjoy listening to your ideas, they're quite interesting. I wish nothing but the best for a benevolent leader like yourself. See you on Saturday," he then smiles as he takes the backpack from you and zips it up. "Consider us even after this, yeah?"

"Are you sure? All I've done is ask more of you," you sigh.

"I'm sure," he grins once more. "Get home safely!"

Kuroko then steps out and slings the backpack over his shoulder. You watch as he walks away to his car, waiting for him to get inside before you pull out of the lot. You then drive out and head back to Atsumu's house.

When you arrive, you pull out your phone from your back pocket and see that Atsumu's called you twice and sent you a few messages asking where you are. You sigh knowing that you lied to him about where you went and that you'll need to tell him the truth. Besides, you were supposed to be home early to have dinner with him.

The second you open the front door and step inside, you hear Atsumu rushing in your direction. By the time your shoes are off, he slides around the corner and almost slips as he runs in your direction.

"Are you alright?" he asks. "You've been out since this morning. Where'd you go?"

"I wasn't out all day," you say to avoid the inevitable. "I came back a little while ago and you weren't home."

"I went to the casino. I thought maybe you had gone there. But Aoi said she hadn't seen you all day. You said you were going out with your friends!" he tries to say calmly without prying too much, but his nerves are showing right through.

"I know, I'm sorry," you say as you step up from the genkan and walk past him towards the living room. "I should have told you that I was going out with Oikawa but I didn't want you to worry and get all weir-"

"You went out with that asshole again?! Y/N, I'm telling you something's shady about that guy!"

"I know that, Tsumu! If you just let me explain, then I can-" you stop as you turn around and almost bump right into him.

"What's wrong," he asks as he looks at you intensely. "What happened? Did he do something to you? He tried something, didn't he?"

"Calm down, I'm trying to tell you!" you groan. "I'm perfectly fine. Will you let me explain?"

"Yeah, sorry. I'm sorry, Y/N," he replies as he shakes his head. "Go ahead, I'm ready to listen."
