chapter forty one: myrtle

The next morning you leave Atsumu asleep in bed to walk out and get some water. But when you get to the kitchen, you see Rhodes bent over the counter in almost the exact same spot Atsumu had you last night.

"Morning," you say as you enter the room. "Are you alright? You look tired."

"Jesus, is that really the first thing you're going to say to me?" he groans as he slides his body to sit up somewhat normally in his chair.

"Uh, what else am I supposed to say?" you chuckle, thinking he's just joking around.

"You're like dogs when you fuck. I could hear the two of you all. Night. Long."

You freeze upon hearing his words. You thought you had done a pretty good job at keeping quiet like Atsumu had asked you. But maybe that's why he wanted to bang the discipline into your body until four a.m..

"Sorry about that," you apologize. "I'll talk to-"

"Don't worry about it," he interrupts. "I'm used to stuff like that being a thousand times worse. I don't look like shit because of that, it's just hard for me to get used to sleeping in a new place, you know? Especially after a big move like yesterday's. I'll be fine in a few days, I just need to adjust."

"Okay, well if you need anything, let me know. There's a whole bunch of medicine in the bathroom if you ever need anything," you offer.

"Thanks, I know."

"Huh? You knew that already? But I never told you..."

"Y/N, where else would a girl like you keep her fucking meds?" he sighs. "I'll get you a new bottle of NyQuil, but that shit saved me last night."

"Well I hope that happened at least a little," you say as you walk around to the other side of the counter where your shirt from last night is still on the floor. You suppose Rhodes hasn't walked over here yet. Or maybe he just didn't notice.

"You know what would be nice?" he begins.

"Hm?" you hum as you reach up for two glasses from your cabinet.

"Maybe you or Atsumu have a plan I can hang out with. Then we can have a noise competition. And maybe if I've got someone, it'll help me fall asleep," he says half-jokingly.

"Good one," you roll your eyes as you fill up the two glasses with water and pass Rhodes one of them. "But I think maybe once you start at the syndicate you'll be able to find someone for yourself."

"Someone who's your type," another voice adds. When you look over, you see Atsumu half naked walking into the room.

"Got any pups in the syndicate?" he smirks at Atsumu.

Atsumu chuckles as he walks over to Rhodes. He shakes his head as he pats your new roommate on the back. "We didn't just fuck in the room last night," he vaguely explains before walking over towards you. "Morning, babe."

"Good morning," you smile as Atsumu kisses you on the cheek.

"Ah, god, you two are fucking freaks!" Rhodes complains as he stands up from his chair and backs away. "Is that why your shirt... Shit, I didn't think about it like that. Gross!"

You smile to yourself as Rhodes dusts himself off and walks over to the couch. "Is it okay if I sit over here or might I sit in something sticky?"

"Don't be gross," Atsumu shakes his head. "We clean up after ourselves."

Rhodes deadpans as he ignores Atsumu and looks at you. "It's fine," you tell him, unable to choke back your laughter. "You can sit there."

While Atsumu stays in the kitchen, you walk over to Rhodes and sit down beside him.

"So I guess it's going well between the two of you," he whispers. You smile as you look past him and see Atsumu attempting to work Rhodes' coffee machine.

"It's going really well," you smile at him. "I think so, at least."

"I'm sure he'd agree with that," he nods. "Safe to say he's already in love with you. Has he said anything yet?"

"No," you shake your head. "I don't think he wants to move quickly for obvious reasons."

Rhodes hums in agreement. "And what'd you do about the ring?"

"What ring?" you whisper, completely forgetting what he's talking about until it finally hits you. "Oh shit."

"Yeah, that ring," he whispers back. "Are you going to give it to Atsumu?"

"No way! I'll have to return it. I can't give him a ring I was planning to give to his fucking brother."

"And then what?" Rhodes shrugs. "You can't lie to him 'bout this shit. Does he know about it?"

"I don't know," you respond as you bite your lip. "I can't remember if I talked to him about it or not."

"You're terrible at this," Rhodes groans. "Fine, I'll help you. Here's what you've got to do. Step one, return the ring and get a new one. Make sure it's something that reminds you about Atsumu. Something that has nothing to do with Osamu at all. It's a completely different ring, remember that. Then, take him to Shinjuku Park. Have a talk with him there. You'll figure out what you need to say but it needs to come from you. I can't be the one to tell you what to say."

"Okay," you nod as you take in a deep breath to calm yourself down. "I got it. Thank you."

"What're you two whispering about?" Atsumu asks as he walks over and sits in a nearby chair, joining the conversation.

"Oh, Y/N was just telling me how shitty you are in bed. I told her maybe she should leave you for someone else. I heard Daisho is single," Rhodes teases.

"Shut up, that's not even funny," Atsumu snaps, sitting up in his seat.

"Calm down, he's only kidding," you intervene, laughing to yourself.

"Not funny," he pouts as he leans back. "You know if something isn't making you happy, you can tell me..."

"No, Tsumu, I promise it's not like that. We weren't talking about you. Let's just move on, okay?"
