Chapter 6 : Behind Closed Doors

Deion's POV

"She's pretty. Young but pretty," Yvonne scoffed.

She stared back at me with a death glare as if she was daring me to agree with her so that she'd have a reason to flip out.

Naomi had just walked away and I immediately knew running into her would somehow spark an argument.

"She's an amazing assistant," I replied casually.

I knew exactly where this conversation was heading. Yvonne was incredibly insecure and based off the conversation we'd already had the moment she knew I was hiring a younger woman as my assistant, I knew she was ready to rumble.

"Why couldn't you hire a male?," she asked, rolling her eyes.

"Yvonne."

"Deion. It's a legitimate question."

"It's not. It's ignorant and I'd rather not argue with you in the middle of this store," I snapped.

"Seems like you're becoming rather defensive over this girl," she replied slickly.

I placed my palm over my face and deeply exhaled.

"I'll be in the car," I announced, heading towards the exit of the store.

"Are you serious?," she yelled, following closely behind me.

"I'm not in the mood Yvonne. Go get whatever it is you came here for and back off me."

A look of shock crossed over her face as she raised her eyebrows up into a frown.

"Look how you speak to me. I'm your wife!," she screamed, causing other people in the store to stop and stare in our direction.

I quickly left the exit of the store and walked over to my truck.

"Deion! How could you just walk away from me like that it's so embarrassing!," she called out.

"I don't care Yvonne. You started this shit with me over absolutely nothing. Sometimes you forget that you're the one that fucking cheated," I replied, suddenly feeling a deep feeling of rage.

She stared back at me with tears forming in her eyes, though she stayed completely silent.

"Yeah that's what I thought. I'm leaving get in if you're riding with me," I barked out, slamming the door to my truck behind me.

She walked around to the other side of the truck and climbed into the passenger's seat, still remaining quiet.

I honestly didn't care how she felt about me bringing up her cheating. We were in couple's therapy for it but it didn't erase the fact that it happened in the first place.

I guess now is the perfect time to get into the details and backstory of my marriage.

Yvonne and I met when I was a freshman in college. Originally she was everything I ever wanted in a woman, but that quickly turned sour when I realized she had a major problem with lying.
