Chapter 8 : What To Do
I stood there feeling lifeless as l attempted to wrap my head around what had just happened.
I mean Deion was my boss. He was also married.
I mean for Christ sake I had just met his wife in the middle of a grocery store not even 3 days ago!
A kiss could be innocent though right? I'm sure it meant absolutely nothing.
"Naomi I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put you in an uncomfortable position. I apologize," Deion said, pulling himself away from me.
"It's okay. I know it didn't mean anything."
"I guess it didn't," he replied quietly.
His eyes had fallen down to the floor avoiding contact with me so I took that as my cue to leave.
"I'm going to head to my desk. This stays between us," I announced in a lower tone, exiting his office.
He nodded his head in agreement as he rubbed the bottom of his jaw nervously while pacing back and forth.
I quickly scurried over to my office closing the door behind me.
I had a million thoughts in my mind.
I found Deion attractive since day one but the wedding ring immediately made me look in the opposite direction, for the most part.
My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of my phone buzzing loudly in my purse that was placed on top of my desk.
My eyes widened a bit as I seen a photo of me and Marcus on the screen with his contact name across the top of it. I had an incoming FaceTime call from him.
Normally of course my phone wouldn't have been answered while I was at work but the assignment I had today was just data entry so I decided I'd quickly accept it. I could use a bit of a distraction.
"Hi baby!," I squealed in a fake happy tone as I grinned into the camera.
"Uh hey babe, how you doing?," he asked confusedly.
"I'm okay. Just got to work not too long ago, yup."
Why the hell would I say yup after that kind of a sentence? Ugh I was definitely starting to ramble.
"You good bae? You look all nervous and sweaty."
I quickly wiped my forehead and realized I was indeed dripping in sweat. Gross!
I bit down on my bottom lip and begun to tap my feet on the ground from nervousness.
"Yeah I'm fine it's just this big project I have to get done soon," I lied.
I gritted my teeth together and stared back at him waiting for a reaction to the bullshit excuse I'd just came up with.
"Well I know you've been worried about this new job so I wanted to make things a little lighter for you. You at your desk?," Marcus asked, smiling into the camera.
