Chapter 17 : Where do we go from here? Pt 1
- Deion's POV
————————————————————————
"Hi," I answered from my end of the call.
"Hi," she replied.
I couldn't fully tell but it sounded like she had been crying or possibly still was.
Who has her crying? I damn sure hope it isn't me!
"Are you okay? It sounds like you're crying."
"I was getting a little emotional but I'm okay, are you okay?," she asked.
"I am now that I've talked to you."
"You always know what to say to make me feel bubbly inside."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"It is, but we should talk the correct way. Face to face."
I gulped and suddenly felt my palms become clammy, I was nervous. I couldn't let her know that though.
"Sounds good with me," I replied casually.
"I'm going to be heading to my apartment in a few minutes, are you able to meet me there?," she asked.
I could tell she was scared to ask me that, I knew it must've taken a lot of courage.
Nonetheless I was shocked.
"Uh-uh, I mean yeah. Sure yeah I can do that," I stammered.
I was feeling real pitiful right about now.
I was a grown, well established man in my mid 30's but yet the moment a woman I took interest in invited me to her place I was freezing up.
"I mean only if you're comfortable with it."
"Naomi. Of course I'm good with it, send me the address and I'll head there."
I was trying to play it cool, hopefully she didn't pick up on the nervousness I was having.
We disconnected the line and she sent over her address.
It was about 3pm on a Sunday. I told her I'd be there in about an hour. This gave me some time to get myself together.
Maria, our nanny, was off for the day due to a family emergency so my mother was watching Karter.
I had taken the call from Naomi in the middle of my kitchen and completely spaced out forgetting that I had a few things on the stove.
Luckily, nothing was burnt in fact it was perfect timing to get everything served up on the plates.
"Mom, Karter! The food is ready come on down," I yelled as loud as I could towards the nearby living room.
I watched as my son sprinted towards me as fast as he could with both of his hands behind his back, he was such a funny kid.
I chuckled, "You ready to eat little man?"
