Chapter 48 : Closer

"I can't believe all this even happened, I'm glad you guys are all okay though." Skye sipped her drink as she sat across from me at a local boba cafe.

I had just finished catching her up on everything that had gone down since the last time I seen her, from me meeting with my parents and the most recent events that landed me in the hospital.

I sipped on a matcha boba as I responded, "Yeah. It's been hectic to say the least. I'm glad we're okay too, just ready to meet these little girls."

"You're going to be the best mom ever. I just know it. How's Karter been adapting to you? I hope that's been going good."

My relationship with Karter had actually grown very strong over the last few months, I treated him and acted as though he was my own son. I'd been nervous because I didn't want him to feel like I destroyed his family or was trying to replace his biological mother, but things worked out on their own and he accepted me fully.

I smiled, "Its been great. He's actually really used to me and just wants to meet his sisters now."

Standing on my feet I walked over to a nearby garbage can and disposed of my cup, Skye followed close behind and held the door open for us to exit.

Skye walked over to her car and held the passenger door open for me as I climbed in, "You literally couldn't have told me a year ago you'd be having twins, practically married with a whole little family. It just shows you how life can be so unexpected, I'm so happy for you."

"Who are you telling? Girl I thought I'd be single forever after dealing with what I dealt with and just losing faith in men as a whole."

The universe had a funny way of timing.

She cautiously shut the door behind me as she made her way over to the driver's side, throwing the car into reverse she pulled out of the parking lot.

"So where are we heading now?," I asked, clicking my seatbelt in.

"Well I figured we could go shopping, grab some super cute outfits and maybe do a bestie maternity shoot. You know Deion is the dad but I'm the fairy god mother," she chuckled.

Leave it to her to always know how to make me smile, that girl was really my best friend.

I smiled and tilted my head towards her, "That sounds like a great idea, very spontaneous."

"Duh."

Checking my phone I opened my messages and seen I had missed some from Deion and both of my parents.

"I'm missing you baby, just sitting at this meeting discussing some plans since I'll be out on paternity leave soon. Putting things in motion so that we have all the time we need with our princesses." - Deion

Reading his messages always brought tears to my eyes, just knowing he was always considering us and our family was so refreshing.

I sent him a quick response and moved on to my parents' messages.

We'd created a group chat which was actually healing in a way, just knowing they were getting along and both equally invested in nurturing our relationship.
