It was as loud as ever on the training grounds, luckily the weather seemed to be nice allowing me to wake up in a better mood than expected.

Once again those eyes were staring at me. These men still fuss about the sight of a woman training among the other recruits to join the royal army.

It's been a month give it a rest.

I cleared my throat trying to ignore all the eyes following me with every step I took. I was actually surprised that I was the only woman applying for the training course.

But then again.... women are only seen as breading material and the ones who make you dinner.

The high commander declined me as well, it was only after the queen had a word with him that he allowed me to join.

He doesn't like me, that's no secret.

He wants me gone, everyone wants that. The fact that I'm actually good pisses them off even more.

''Alright you little shits, stop moping around like a pair of girls and get in position!''

It's the high commander.

It took a moment for the other men to get positioned paired up with their swords, as they didn't take the commander his ill words seriously. I on the other hand was already ready even before he mentioned it.

Like always...

''So anyone who would like to go first?'' Everyone was already familiar with the training sessions we had.

Today we are starting off with a one-on-one sparring match. Silence fell while everyone tried to avoid his eyes.

They all act high and mighty but when it comes to the real deal they cower away.

My eyes focused on the muddy ground in front of me while my ears focused on the slow steps he took.

Oh god...

Just as I was predicting he came to a hold. His black pair of boots is now in my vision along with his fur cape dragging along through the mud.

''How about it girl? They do say ladies first.'' It was my permission to raise my head.

It's not like I have a choice.

I just walked past him with a firm grip on my sword as I took the spot in the middle.

This was going to be my first time in a sparring match. I was never picked before.

''Anyone who dares to have her as your opponent?'' His question made everyone burst out in laughter. Suddenly they didn't feel so insecure anymore.

Of course, the one I couldn't stand the most stepped forward. His eyes locked fiercely with mine as he smiled. He already drew his sword as he stepped to the center joining me. The other men cheered him on while he flung his sword as a show.

''This is no place for you, you know that all too well.'' I couldn't care less about his opinion as I took in my stance waiting for the queue to start.

''Ignoring m-''

''Just shut up and get ready.'' I felt like a fool reacting to his little provoking words, knowing it was what he wanted and only made him smile even more.

''I am ready...My lady. I'll show you where you belong. Between my sheets keeping me warm that is.''
