Halley's pov
I slap my hand on my alarm and get dressed

Steve left me...what else is new? I sigh and see my parents left without warning as well...I wonder how long they'll be gone this time. I duck my head avoiding people and attention as I get to my locker. "Hey..thought you were gonna be late" Steve says. Wow. I shake my head "no" grabbing what I need. He shuffles on his feet "I'm gonna need you to-" I cut him off "walk home...yeah. Got it" closing and locking my locker walking past him but he follows and stops me "you okay? What's the attitude for? I just...have a date with Nancy and can't drive you. I'm sure if you make friends someone will drive you?"

Of course...Nancy wheeler. I'm surprised they lasted honestly. I shake my head "m fine" I mutter knowing the talks gonna go nowhere even if I do. The car isn't only his. He forgets it and never lets me drive it and always just takes it. There's a wedge between us...it wasn't always this way. We were attached to the hip. Then we started highschool and he started becoming king Steve. A completely different person. He's not the brother I grew up with and could count on with anything. That Steve wouldn't leave me to walk home alone when people are going missing. Everyone leaves so I'm not surprised he's going too. He stops me again "there's something wrong Halley. Talk to me" it won't matter.

I don't. I sigh "I'm fine steve. I'll walk home have fun later" and walk to my class beside Eddie Munson. I don't see why people don't like him. Who cares he plays rock music and dungeons n dragons? He's funny. And just...himself. He smiles my way "hey Hales." I reply "hey Eddie" with a gentle smile. He furrows his eyebrows "you okay?" I nod "yeah why?" He chuckles "You're usually this bouncing Ray of sunshine....you look sad. You're too pretty to be sad Hales"

He thinks I'm pretty? I mean I think I am....I get wolf whistles and dirty words thrown at me all the time. It's annoying. And gross. And it's not the first time Eddie's called me it but every time he does I just wonder if he really means it or just wants something in return.  I'm interrupted by someone sitting next to me. Billy Hargrove. The guy who's beat my brother in basketball and literally. He smirks my way "I don't believe we met pretty girl" his words bring butterflies to my stomach.

He asks his face close to mine "and what's your name?" I reply shyly "Halley harrington" he doesn't wipe that smirk from his face "you're Steve's quiet sister" I huff I don't want to just be known as his sister. I'd rather just not be known at all. I say "Halley...my name is Halley" he sees my paper that I wrote my name on and says "like the comet?"

Didn't expect him to know it. He doesn't seem the astronomy type. I nod "exactly" Eddie chuckles "lay off billy" Billy chuckles "just askin her about her name Ed" believe it or not they're actually friends...weirdly enough. No one would expect Billy to want to associate with Eddie but he does. They're close actually. I ask "what are you doing in this class?"

He chuckles "got kicked outta my other one so they sent me here...didn't think I'd be seated next to an angel though" brushing my hair behind my ear and Eddie asks "what'd you do now Billy?" "Jason kept runnin his mouth is all" he huffs. Eddie chuckles "you're gonna get expelled one day" Billy shrugs and Eddie asks me "you never answered me Hales. What's up? What's got you down?" I shake my head "I'm alright Eddie. Just a bit tired" and the class goes on Billy speaks again "I heard some things about you comet?" I roll my eyes at the nickname and I ask "like what". and he mutters making me blush "Heard you're as sweet as pie" he replies

He mutters in my ear now "I'd like to see if you're as sweet as they say comet" blush flushes my cheeks and Eddie chuckles "lay off billy you're gonna give her a heart attack" Billy backs into his own space and Eddie mutters "you alright?" Still not letting my slight mood change go.I tell him "I'm fine" he tucks my hair behind my ear "you know you can talk to me right Halley? We're friends. Friends don't bottle things up and hide stuff" are we friends?

Eddie and I only talked five times before today. I ask "we're friends?" Eddie nods with a smile "I'd like to think that we are. Though I end up doing the talking between us. You're not bad Harrington" Billy speaks "we're friends now too sugar" really? Billy's the most popular guy in school. He dethroned Steve as soon as he got here...and beat him up as well. Billy adds "that's if you want it. If not I got no problem just being nothin until you decide we're somethin"

I mutter "okay" Billy smiles "see? Now we're all friends. Perfect lil group we got here. The popular kid, the outsider and the sweet girl" Eddie rolls his eyes "ha ha ha" Eddie turns to me "you know how to play dungeons n dragons Halley?" The game people think is making all these weird things happen here? I just think it's a game and people are looking for something to blame. Just like rock music makes people devil worshippers and murderers.

I shake my head "can't say that I do" the bell rings and I grab my things and head back to my locker and I sigh sadly seeing my ex Emerson with Kaitlyn Sawyer. I swallow my feelings and chant quietly feel nothing and it'll be fine and shut down again. "Hey" it's Steve again. "Hey" I reply once again waiting for him to tell me another way he's leaving me. It's all we talk about now. Him leaving. Steve and I used to be attached at the hip. We used to tell each other everything. High school started and he became a different person. He got in with the popular crowd and started partying and everything else. Leaving me behind, only really talking to me to tell me he's ditching me.

"Are you listening?" He asks and I sigh "sorry was just thinking what?" He says "I was thinking you can come to the party tonight" "thought you had plans with Nancy and that's why you can't use our car to drive me home?" I ask. "The party is after that." He tells me. And adds "it'll be fun. We can hang out" he's done this before. Say we're going to hang out but as soon as we get there he ditches me.

Even leaving without me to walk home in the dark. I reply "I hate parties" and I do. I don't see how people can have fun being drunk. "Cmon I'm trying here" he sighs. I remind him "yeah you tried before too and ditched me and I had to walk over a mile home in the dark. I hate parties and I don't even know anyone" closing my locker.

He tells me "because you don't try to know anyone. You just hide" "I'm not going" I reply. He follows me "please. I promise I won't ditch you." He's said it before. I remind him "I hate parties" walking to class.
