Reunited

-Chapter - 57 - Believe me when I say I love you -

Nathalie followed him out immediately hoping that they would be able to talk to each other without having to yell or throw hurtful words to one another. But when Nathalie entered the room, she saw Gabriel putting his coat on.

Nathalie approached him and asked, "Gabriel? Where are you going?"

"I'm just going to get some fresh air," he answered refusing to look at her.

Nathalie cupped his cheeks, then raised them so she could see his face. "I am willing to accompany you..." she said. Gabriel, however, removed her hands away from his face and said as he made his way to the door, "Nathalie, I want to be by myself. I need time to think. And after I return, I will either agree or disagree with you to put an end to what's between us."

"Gabriel...." Nathalie said and started to walk to him.

He looked at her briefly. "Please don't stay up all night waiting for me," he said and slammed the door behind him.

As he descended the stairs, Gabriel suddenly thought about Nathalie's engagement ring, which he had designed and purchased. He remembered putting it in his safe in the dressing room.

He ran back upstairs, where he entered the dressing room and unlocked his safe. As he thought, the ring was still locked up in his safe. He removed the black box from the paper bag and opened it. His eyes immediately began to well up with tears as he remembered how he had promised himself that the next time he would take this sapphire diamond ring out would be the day he would finally pop the question to Nathalie. But he wasn't even certain that day would ever arrive at this point.

Gabriel closed the black box again and placed it inside of his pockets. He then wiped off his tears and locked his safe again. After that, he proceeded to leave the mansion and drove himself to the the Pont des Arts Bridge.

-Pont des Arts Bridge-

After a while, Gabriel arrived at the bridge. He was glad not many people were at the bridge at this time to witness what he was about to do.

Standing in front of the railing, Gabriel observed the water below. He closed his eyes and took a long breath before reaching for the box in his pocket. He lifted the lid and took the ring out. Gabriel gave it a good look as tears started to trickle down his cheeks. As he raised the ring and prepared to hurl it into the water, he felt something inside him stop him.

He just couldn't bring himself to do it.
He placed the ring back in the case, closed it and stored it back inside his pants pocket.

Gabriel returned to the car while sobbing. He only had one person in particular whom he genuinely wanted to see. And that was his friend, Jay. The old man always knew how to make Gabriel feel better . However, despite being aware that visiting hours had ended, Gabriel still made the decision to drive himself to prison in the hopes that the guards would permit him to speak with the elderly man for even a short period of time.

Gabriel didn't know what he wanted to do anymore. And he hopes that when he gets to talk to Jay, maybe he will help him.

As soon as Gabriel entered the prison, before he could even say a word, the guards informed him, "If Jay is the reason you're here, You are late, Mr. Agreste. Two days after your release from prison, he passed away due to issues with his heart."

Gabriel shook his head, "That is not possible! Th-the last time I saw him, he seemed in such good health! You're-you're lying! I can see him there! Just give me a moment to talk to him! Please!" He resisted accepting it. However, when he saw the guards' expressions on him, he knew they were telling the truth. And that meant he had failed once again.
